Renting textbooks is exactly as it sounds. Chegg has one of the largest inventories of up-to-date textbooks available for rent on a semester basis. Rental prices are much cheaper than purchasing books outright and returns are always free at the end of the semester.
We can ship anywhere within the 50 United States. Shipping options are available when placing an order and many times you can get your book within a few days if you need it.
We currently have one rental period to make it easy for you to rent textbooks that will cover your entire semester. If our due date doesn’t cover your semester, just let us know and we’ll get it taken care of for you with our Semester Guarantee.
It’s simple, just put the ISBN (or title and author) into the search bar. Once you select the book you want, follow the prompts to check out and the book will be on its way!
Students who rent textbooks from Chegg are committed to saving money on their required materials for school. Rather than purchasing books at high marked-up prices from local campus bookstores, renting textbooks from Chegg is the perfect solution for limited semester use and then returned for free with our prepaid shipping labels. No more storing bulky textbooks after only three months’ use or figuring out how to dispose of them. Chegg makes it easy with affordable rentals of in-use textbooks for your upcoming college courses at up to 90% savings* off of new titles for purchase.
Rented textbooks from Chegg may be new or used books although most of the time books will be used, in good condition.
Chegg cannot guarantee that supplementary materials will be included when you rent textbooks. If they are vital to your course, supplementary materials may be available when you purchase select titles in our inventory. Any supplementary materials received in your order must be returned with your textbooks at the end of your rental period.
Some textbooks come with complimentary access to the eTextbook version of the book for 7 days while you’re waiting for it to be delivered. This is not available for all textbooks, however, it is automatically added at checkout for those that are available.
Highlighting or underlining is permitted in textbook rentals but please refrain from writing or notetaking in the books. Remember that students will be using these textbooks after you so keeping them in good condition is appreciated.
Yes! We have a 21-day any reason guarantee. If you return your book within 21 days of your original order date, you’ll receive a full refund. You can always return your book early if you no longer need it but outside of the 21 days a refund will not be processed.
Chegg’s textbook rental satisfaction guarantee provides students with a 21-day return period for a full refund (minus shipping costs). In order to receive a refund:
• Returns must be postmarked within 21 days of the day the original order was placed
• The returned product must be in the same condition as was sent
• Return packaging uses the prepaid shipping return label from UPS
Chegg’s shipping policy guarantees delivery of your textbook order no later than the date stated on your order confirmation. If your textbooks have not been delivered by that date, please notify Chegg and we will refund your shipping costs.
When you rent textbooks from Chegg, you get the added benefit of free returns at the end of the rental period. We make returns easy by providing a printable prepaid UPS shipping label.
As long as you get your book scanned in at any UPS location on or before your due date, you will not incur any late fees. Returned books must also be in the same condition as initially received as well as packaged appropriately for return to avoid damage and further damage fees.
If you’ve forgotten the due dates of your textbook rentals, simply go to My Account to access that information.
Textbooks returned after the due date may automatically be charged an extended rental fee or charged the purchase price minus any rental fees already paid. Prior to your due date, expect an email reminder from Chegg with your return options.
Log in to My Account to extend your rental period. Prior to ordering, if you know your textbook rental needs exceed the stated rental period, contact Chegg directly by phone or chat and we will work to adjust your rental period to fit your class schedule (digital products may be excluded).
If you’ve lost a textbook, you have two options:
• Pay the purchase price of the lost book minus any rental fees already paid
• Return an identical book with the same ISBN that is in good condition
