Zika virus information for the blood and tissue collection community

CDC is working with state health departments and blood collection organizations to help ensure the safety of our blood supply and reduce the risk of Zika virus transmission through blood transfusions.  Zika virus disease is a nationally notifiable condition.  Cases are reported to CDC by state and local health departments using standard case definitions.  Geographic delineations of local transmission have been established by state/local jurisdictions for the purpose of notifying blood collection organizations of areas of active vector-borne Zika virus transmission.

Currently, there have not been any cases of locally acquired vector-borne Zika virus in the United States.
