Jimmy E: Hi, I'm Jimmy. I'm a people operations manager. I would give Bamboo HR a five out of five stars, and for more information, click below. Before BambooHR, we used a variety of different apps and it was hard to have the apps talk to each other and even get the correct information. A lot of times the information was redundant. Some of the main reasons we decided to go with BambooHR were the ability to house a lot of the features that we wanted all in one, such as time tracking, digitizing employee records, and even performance management, building the performance reviews right into the system, and then housing that all in one easily accessible platform for both employees and me as the administrator.
Getting started with BambooHR was pretty easy. Generally you're assigned to a onboarding specialist that help you transfer any information over from other systems and also educate you about the features and systems and how they work. My recommendation for anyone considering BambooHR is that it's a great tool. It's a great HRIS system for small businesses. It's easy on the eyes, both for the employee and the administrator. And it's an all in one tool that saves you time so you can focus on what matters.

"BambooHR Turns a Small Business into a Big Business "
Overall: I enjoyed it more than other recruiting software I've used. It makes work easier and helps me be a manager instead of a paper pusher.
Pros: I personally like that BambooHR has different portals for its users. They've built a database that allows employees to: 1. Maintain their own records (whether the company sends or user uploaded); track time off earned, sick days used, and hours worked; while allowing the user to sign documents easily electronically; and 2. Makes being an HR manager, easy. What I mean is, creating records (employees or temps) and ensuring they have all the blocks checked (background ran, drug test paperwork properly filled out, and any other documentation needing signed) within the timeframe needed to start working - is tracked, maintained, and recorded for you... so all in all, eliminates the monotony of HR and time wasted on paperwork while assisting managers/employees in ensuring proper compliance.
Cons: Well, I still had to scan any documents that weren't created or automated through the software and label them. For example, I work at a satellite location; the warehouse I staff for has a basketball court out back for employees to use on their break. I had to create a document that stated employees for my agency had to make sure they were clocked out, that they were responsible for any risk of injury and that the company and staffing agency would not be held liable for any resulting injury that may occur. The rest of the staffing agency didn't need this so I still had to print out 50 copies, have each employee sign one, upload it, file it in the employee file in the software, label it, then give the copy back to the employee. This really is not an issue unless if turnover is high, this could get annoying.
Switched From: TempWorks Enterprise
Reasons for Switching to BambooHR: Tempworks was costly and would charge for the smallest customer service help. The software was clunky and was confusing to keep track of employees. Too much time wasted on checking and unchecking employees assigned and the "hot lists" was time consuming to manage.

"Bamboo HR, a slick but severely limited recruiting software"
Overall: As stated, the BHR system is a recruiters dream and makes the talent acquisition process easier for those businesses that are only using the job boards to get applicants. Just don't expect much more after that.
Pros: The look an feel of BambooHR (BHR) is amazing! Its almost like Facebook for recruiting. It is very intuitive for what it does and offers to the administrator and end user. The applicant tracking system is very easy to use and goes the extra mile with automation and thoughtfulness concerning on-boarding and then " flowing" into the core HRIS. The BHR system was chosen by a previous HR professional that clearly had a recruiting bias. Although important, more vetting should have been done to make a sound choice for long term success regarding the needs of a small to mid-size business.
Cons: Beyond what I described above there is limited functionality without also purchasing and integrating other systems through a "bolt-on" approach. By "Bolt-on" I mean that BHR will not automate between the core HR system of BHR and a timekeeping system, a payroll system, benefits administration system, leave administration system. The ability to have a robust system is possible but is not practical or cost effective with BambooHR. In order to get a full platform, covering the full life cycle of and employee, through BHR, a business would have to pay upwards of 30-40 dollars per employee per month. Simply put other options are available and far more robust with better long term results for less money- See my review of APS Payroll for an example.
Reasons for Choosing BambooHR: Price and lack of proper education as to the actual functionality and potential cost of the system beyond on-boarding.

"BambooHR makes our work easier!"
Overall: I overall loved the whole experience, from the introduction, sales/acquisition of the software, to the onboarding and data transfer. The Salesperson and Project Manager of our account made us feel decided about Bamboo from the very first approach. We feel candidate onboarding and administration of our personnel in the Company has become much more manageable.
Pros: What I like the most about Bamboo is that tracking PTO, benefits, and celebrations is much easier compared to other software we've used before. This unique "social network" design has made it user-friendly for our employees regardless of their age.
Cons: What I didn't love is that we couldn't find integration with LinkedIn for job postings. We had to use LinkedIn externally for recruiting.

"I would recommend this software."
Overall: For the most part I have been very satisfied with the software. The customer service is outstanding and I love the hold music and the overall tone of the company. This is a growing company that makes improvements all the time based on suggestions from users. The implementation process was easy as well.
Pros: This software is easy to use and the customer service is outstanding.
Cons: You cannot generate individual employee reports such as timesheets or payroll record without exporting to another program and then deleting what you do not need.
Reasons for Choosing BambooHR: I sales associated contacted me almost immediately after my inquiry (I waited a week for another). The company is based in the USA. It seemed more user friendly than other software, the price was good, and there was no contract.

"Amazing Customer Service, Always Looking to Improve"
Overall: Overall we have really benefitted from Bamboo. I think the next big thing for Bamboo would be to offer a scheduling tool within the software. They partner with another company in this as an alternative, but I believe Bamboo could utilize their amazing innovation and forwarding thinking capabilities to create a great scheduling tool.
Pros: We love the customer service Bamboo provides. 90% of the time I have someone helping me within 2 minutes. And they always know the answer. If what I am wanting to do is not an option, they push it up the line and a group reviews these requests constantly. Bamboo is always looking to improve their product, which I appreciate and I want to be a part of a company that is always looking forward to the future's possibilities.
Cons: Our main issue is with payroll. We would love to utilize it, but you can only have one tax ID. We have multiple tax IDs for multiple locations and employees cross over between them constantly. The work around was for us to have multiple Bamboo accounts to accommodate for the multiple tax IDs. But this is not cost efficient for us.
