Our Approach
Addiction indiscriminately penetrates all corners of society, including each race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic level, as well as ages and genders. Moreover, addiction includes not only substances and alcohol, but also processes (e.g., gambling, sex, eating, and gaming) and relationships (e.g., codependency). Science has greatly improved our understanding of addiction both through the biology of the brain and psychological processes, and now officially renders it to be a disease within the medical community. Despite scientific advance, however, no medicine or single “cure” has been discovered to treat addiction.

In the original, pioneering vision of Harriet Rossetto, with Rabbi Mark Borovitz at her side, Beit T’Shuvah, a Jewish addiction treatment center has been immersed in a 30-year study of what we call human brokenness—the inherent inner human dilemma wherein we live in an uncertain world with uncertain meaning and an uncertain future. Our teachers have been those in our community who are most acutely broken: the junkies, criminals, alcoholics, gamblers and thieves, who are no longer able to deny their inner scission

And parents aren’t doing much better. We get so caught up in competition; we want to be the best and we want our children to be the best, thinking that will make them happy... instead of helping them to be themselves. Change starts here, at EBI.

Most medical professionals aren't equipped to treat an addict, and some can't even identify one. Misdiagnosis, mistreatment, and the doling out of wrong prescriptions is perpetuating this epidemic. EBI at Beit T’Shuvah has designed a unique educational system of Addiction Training Immersion for physicians and other healthcare personnel who wish to upgrade their clinical skill levels as "Addiction First Responders."
