Tickets
Tickets for services at BHC are issued to all members in good financial standing. Your ticket will admit you to all BHC High Holy Day services.

Flowers for Those Unable to Attend
The congregation would like to recognize your immediate family members who are homebound or in a nursing home with High Holy Day Flowers. The cost is covered by a generous gift from the Dr. Bennett I. Kemper Memorial High Holy Day Flower Fund. Let Iris know which of your loved ones should receive flowers.  Iris Powell, 410-764-1587, ext. 224, or [email protected].

Transportation Assistance to BHC Events
The Irene Gogel Transportation Fund, established through the generosity of the Gogel family, provides reimbursement for hired transportation to Temple activities. Learn how to get Uber, Lyft, or Taxi rides to/from BHC reimbursed by calling the office, 410-764-1587.

Parking: BHC Lot and Additional Parking
In addition to our lot, parking is available along the BHC side of Slade Avenue and in the overflow lot of Suburban Country Club. It is a quick walk to BHC. We will not be providing a shuttle this year.

High Holy Day Food Drive
The 2024 High Holy Day Food Drive for GEDCO Cares Food Pantry will kick off at Rosh Hashanah Under the Stars. BHC’s donations are a crucial resource for GEDCO-Govens Ecumenical Development Corporation. INFO: Jillian Manko, [email protected] or 410-764-1587, ext. 246.

Prayerbooks
Our prayerbook, Mishkan Hanefesh is provided during services.  Prayerbooks can be borrowed by those streaming from home.  The receptionist can loan you a set anytime our building is open.

Ushering
Help BHC with services by volunteering as an usher for the High Holy Days, Shabbat, and/or Bar/Bat Mitzvah services. We have a special need for additional ushers this year, and appreciate our continuing ushers. Ushering is a great way to assist fellow congregants, while feeling more connected yourself. INFO: Richard Peterson, Usher Chair, [email protected].

Childcare
To make High Holy Day Services more accessible for families, BHC offers childcare for ages 2–6 years old conveniently following our Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Morning Tot Services.
Please register for childcare by Friday, September 27, drop-ins not permitted.

High Holy Day Observances

Rosh Hashanah Under the Stars
RHUS offers a unique experience to welcome the new year surrounded by nature and together with our community at Oregon Ridge Park. Bring your picnic chairs, picnic dinner and shmooze anytime after 4 pm. The service will begin at 6 pm. Prayers will be projected onto a screen. There is no cost to attend, but separate registration is required: baltimorehebrew.org/RHUS2024.
American Sign Language interpreting will be provided and we will make every effort to provide accessibility requirements.
*Don’t forget to bring your non-perishable goods to donate for GEDCO.

Family Services
Families with children 12 and under are welcome to join us for engaging family services in the Straus Social Hall on both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Tot Services
Start your year with our short and sweet Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Tot services! Led by our rabbis for Newborn–Pre-K and their grown ups in the Goodwin Center. This service is scheduled conveniently before our main service in the sanctuary. We offer babysitting for ages 2-6 years old so grown ups can fully attend.

Cemetery Memorial Services
Remembering those who had an impact on our lives is a beautiful way to honor the memory of those we miss. On Sunday, October 6, between the Holy Days, we gather and find comfort in prayer together. Services are held at both Belair Road, 10:30 am, and Berrymans Lane, Noon. A Holocaust Memorial Service follows the Berrymans Lane service.

Yom Kippur Afternoon Options

Contemplating the Night
Our annual Program of Music and Meditation will feature beautiful poetry and music for flute, harp, piano and strings. The program will feature BHC congregant artists Ava Lenet, Kendra Kopelke, Jonathan Shorr, Michael Kannen, Maria Lambros Kannen and Lisa Weiss as well as talented instrumentalists from our Baltimore community. This is a perfect way to pause and reflect on the meaning of the day with meaningful music and poetry.

Facing Our Jewish Fears: Study
With Rabbi Busch we will explore communal or personal Jewish Fears that have arisen or deepened over the past year.  Yom Kippur won’t resolve our fears but can provide us an opportunity and wisdom towards facing them.

Meditation
Rabbi Sachs-Kohen and Cantor Ellerin will guide us through a special Yom Kippur Meditation. This Meditation will follow the same format as their monthly Meditation offered throughout the year.

Making Mensches: Themes, Songs, Readings
Join us as congregants Jon Shorr, Kendra Kopelke, Dana Gloor, Dirk Holzman, and Tracie Guy-Decker explore four Yom Kippur-related virtues through a variety of readings. Our cantors and professional choir will inspire our repentance and prayer with related music from across the High Holy Day services.

Neilah (Concluding Service)
Neilah is a service of deep spiritual fulfillment in which the entire family can share; all are welcome.

Sukkot and Simchat Torah
Our High Holy Days conclude with Sukkot and Simchat Torah. We look forward to gathering in our decorated spaces and joyously dancing and unrolling our Torah in the Sanctuary. On Erev Simchat Torah, we will enjoy dinner together then bless our newest students in front of the bima.
Looking forward to a sweet new year!
