Spotlight on personalised healthcare
Scientific advances and breakthroughs in genetic profiling now mean we can design and use tests to show how individual patients are likely to respond to a medicine before prescribing it for them. Our Personalised Healthcare and Biomarkers team continues to push the boundaries of science to find new ways to match medicines to patients.
Applying scientific rigour
Our 5R framework helps our teams follow the science. We use it every day to progress the right projects, ask the right questions and make quicker, more robust decisions. Watch the film to find our more or download our Nature Reviews Drug Discovery paper to see the science behind the framework.

Breakthrough science requires breakthrough thinking
"I am excited about our work in cardiac regeneration – the focus on using cells derived from patients and the use of phenotypic screening will allow us to identify both novel and biologically relevant compounds that could help patients in the future."
Inspiring the next generation
We believe that in order to continue discovering and developing life-changing medicines, we must also continue to inspire the next generation of ground-breaking scientists.

Vibrant science centres
With four research centres across three continents, we know that vibrant and open science centres are a vital part of sustainable innovation.
Gothenburg, Sweden
Boston, MA, United States
Boston is home to AstraZeneca’s small molecule research in North America, with state-of-the-art laboratories in Waltham, just west of the city centre, and our Neuroscience team in the heart of the city’s Technology Square. Our Boston-based scientists focus on the discovery and development of new medicines for the treatment of cancers and neurological disorders.
Cambridge, United Kingdom
Shanghai, China
Our small molecule research facility in China is located at the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in the Pudong area of Shanghai. Home to our Asia iMed, our research on the site is focused on discovering potential new medicines that meet the unique needs of patients in Asia and driving forward translational science across our main therapy areas.
Open for innovation
Visit our open innovation platformWe believe that creating an environment that is open for innovation, where our teams work side-by-side with our academic and industry partners, will help accelerate scientific discovery and uncover the next breakthrough.
