Art Basel is strongly rooted in the principle that galleries play an essential role in the development and promotion of visual arts. Galleries are invited to participate after an extensive review. This ensures that each Art Basel show presents Modern and contemporary artwork of the highest standard.

Gallerists worldwide are reviewed and selected against the same rigorous criteria, thus ensuring that each event brings together work of the highest standard. Each show has its own Selection Committee, a panel of esteemed international gallerists. During a very intensive, week-long process, each application is thoroughly reviewed according to the standards for excellence established by Art Basel.
Art Basel's Selection Committees is made up of prominent gallerists who serve multi-year terms. The Selection Committee relies on criteria that remain consistent from year to year to make their final selections.
