On June 5, 1967, the American Film Institute was born with a founding purpose "to bring cinema to its fullest stature in the country of its birth; to preserve, stimulate, enrich and nurture the art of film in America."

50 years later, AFI is proud to commemorate its golden milestone and celebrate its enduring mission — to educate today's audiences and tomorrow's artists — with new programs and activities through 2019, the 50th Anniversary of the AFI Conservatory's first class.
