I just picked up a small piece of steel plate at Lowes (Home Depot sells it as well). For a 6″ x ~ 18″ it was ~$7.

Don’t you hate taking all that time and precision to align and seat the buttons into the bookends only to find when assembling that while they look nice – they’re supposed to go on the outside! I wonder how I know that?!

I found a simple way to be able to follow the shape of the corbel to make the beading design. I had an old drill circle cutter and all I needed to do was to reverse the blade so that the bevel was to the inside and adjust the cutter so the drill bit acted as a guide bushing. I was able to follow the shape and create the bead in minutes. Before…[Read more]

Clifford replied to the topic Eclipse Vise Size, 10" vs 9" – Heads up! in the forum Tools and Tool Maintenance/Restoration 2 months ago
Interesting post. I do remember in one of Paul’s videos of him commenting that the 10 inch vice would be harder to work with because of its size – but I did not realize the magnitude of the difference!. Makes me glad that I got the 9 inch one for my 5 foot bench.

Just a quick share. I have found that using a straw to remove squeezeout works really well. Below is a short YouTube video.

When making the table project I found this quick fix for clamping the table top to the bench so I could use the #80 cabinet scraper. Many of you may have already used this quick fix but I wanted to share. A scrap of wood in the tool tray, 2 clamps, and my 9″ eclipse vice which has a popup dog. So a no hole dogless dog setup.

Thanks A Joyner. I have used red oak for some of the other projects as it is cheaper than white at my location in Idaho. I think that I remember one of Paul’s blogs stating that both are fine to work with but that […]

If you are looking for a free program to generate a cut list I find CUTLIST 400 useful. Not as powerful as the high priced programs but nice for free.

First time I have ever used a spokeshave. When making the occasional table project, Paul demonstrates cutting the arches in the aprons by first using a chisel then following up with a spokeshave. The chisel part went great but when I tried using a spokeshave I ether just got gouges or nothing. On top of that the wood kept getting stuck between the…[Read more]
