Music (Madonna song)

"Music" is a song recorded by American singer Madonna for her eighth studio album of same name (2000). It was released as the lead single from the album on August 21, 2000 by Maverick Records. The song was also included on the compilation albums GHV2 (2001) and Celebration (2009). Written and produced by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï, it lyrically states that music has the power to make people come together. Musically, "Music" is a dance-pop and electropop song which lyrically talks about how music can bring people together, as she delivers electronically manipulated vocals on the song.

"Music" received positive reviews from music critics, who praised its production, catchiness and club-friendly nature of the song, also comparing it with Madonna's previous releases. "Music" peaked number one in 25 countries, including Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, becoming Madonna's twelfth and latest number-one single in the region. "Music" also has the longest running number-one spot on the US Hot Dance Club Play of the 2000s decade, spending a longevity five weeks at number one. The song was the second most successful dance single of the decade in the United States, behind Madonna's own song "Hung Up", released in 2005.

A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie ins and merchandising could be used in toys are marketing campaigns for food and other products. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they came into prominence in the 1980s when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip". Since the creation and increased popularity of YouTube, mainstream artists now promote new music videos by releasing trailers of short promos on the site for their upcoming song and music video. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.

Louis XIV of France

Louis XIV (5 September 1638 – 1 September 1715), known as Louis the Great (Louis le Grand) or the Sun King (le Roi-Soleil), was a monarch of the House of Bourbon who ruled as King of France from 1643 until his death. His reign of 72 years and 110 days is the longest of any monarch of a major country in European history.

Louis began his personal rule of France in 1661 after the death of his chief minister, the Italian Cardinal Mazarin. An adherent of the concept of the divine right of kings, which advocates the divine origin of monarchical rule, Louis continued his predecessors' work of creating a centralized state governed from the capital. He sought to eliminate the remnants of feudalism persisting in parts of France and, by compelling many members of the nobility to inhabit his lavish Palace of Versailles (formerly a hunting lodge belonging to Louis's father), succeeded in pacifying the aristocracy, many members of which had participated in the Fronde rebellion during Louis's minority. By these means he became one of the most powerful French monarchs and consolidated a system of absolute monarchical rule in France that endured until the French Revolution.

Louis XIV (album)

Louis XIV is the first album made by the band Louis XIV. Released in November 2003, it was recorded and released independently through the band's record label, Pineapple Recording Group. Selling only a thousand copies, the album was discontinued after the band's signing to major label Atlantic Records in 2004.

Louis XIV is a 2005 designer board game by Rüdiger Dorn. Players take on roles of members of the court of Louis XIV of France. The game won the 2005 Deutscher Spiele Preis.

Rise & Fall (song)

"Rise & Fall" is a song by British R&B artist Craig David and the third single taken from his second studio album, Slicker Than Your Average (2002). The song, a collaboration with British musician Sting, returned David to the UK top five, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart. It was the biggest hit from the album.

The song is based on a sample of the 1993 song "Shape of My Heart" from Sting's album Ten Summoner's Tales. Girl group Sugababes released their song, "Shape", which also sampled the Sting song within weeks of "Rise & Fall". The song also returned David to the top ten of the Australian Singles Chart, outpeaking both "What's Your Flava?" and "Hidden Agenda". It also marked the first DVD single release from David.

Chart performance

"Rise & Fall" charted at number two on the UK Singles Chart, spending ten weeks inside the UK Top 75. It also charted at number six in the ARIA Charts.
