The University of Utah (also referred to as the U, the U of U, or Utah) is a public coeducational space-grant research university in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. As the state's flagship university, the university offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and more than 92 graduate degree programs. Graduate studies include the S.J. Quinney College of Law and the School of Medicine, Utah's only medical school. As of Fall 2015, there are 23,909 undergraduate students and 7,764 graduate students, for an enrollment total of 31,673.
The university was established in 1850 as the University of Deseret (
i/dɛz.əˈrɛt./) by the General Assembly of the provisional State of Deseret, making it Utah's oldest institution of higher education. It received its current name in 1892, four years before Utah attained statehood, and moved to its current location in 1900.
The university has produced or cultivated 22 Rhodes Scholars, 3 Nobel Prize winners, 3 MacArthur Fellows, 2 Gates Cambridge Scholars, and 1 Churchill Scholar.
Utah (/ˈjuːtɔː/ or
i/ˈjuːtɑː/; Navajo: Áshįįh bi Tó Hahoodzo; Arapaho: Wo'tééneihí ) is a state in the western United States. It became the 45th state admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896. Utah is the 13th-largest, the 31st-most populous, and the 10th-least-densely populated of the 50 United States. Utah has a population of nearly 3 million (Census estimate for July 1, 2015), approximately 80% of whom live along the Wasatch Front, centering on Salt Lake City. Utah is bordered by Colorado to the east, Wyoming to the northeast, Idaho to the north, Arizona to the south, and Nevada to the west. It also touches a corner of New Mexico in the southeast.
Approximately 62% of Utahns are reported to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or LDS (Mormons), which greatly influences Utah culture and daily life. The world headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) is located in Utah's state capital, Salt Lake City. Utah is the most religiously homogeneous state in the United States, the only state with a Mormon majority, and the only state with a majority population belonging to a single church.
A university (Latin: universitas, "a whole") is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which grants academic degrees in various subjects and typically provides undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word "university" is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars."
The original Latin word "universitas" refers in general to "a number of persons associated into one body, a society, company, community, guild, corporation, etc." At the time of the emergence of urban town life and medieval guilds, specialised "associations of students and teachers with collective legal rights usually guaranteed by charters issued by princes, prelates, or the towns in which they were located" came to be denominated by this general term. Like other guilds, they were self-regulating and determined the qualifications of their members.
In modern usage the word has come to mean "An institution of higher education offering tuition in mainly non-vocational subjects and typically having the power to confer degrees," with the earlier emphasis on its corporate organization considered as applying historically to Medieval universities.
The U is a 2009 documentary film about the University of Miami football program. It was produced by Miami-based media studio Rakontur and directed by Billy Corben.
The film premiered December 12, 2009 after the Heisman Trophy presentation on ESPN as a part of their 30 for 30 documentary series. The U's premiere drew 2.3 million viewers, the most ever for a documentary on the sports cable network until the debut of Pony Excess, another college football documentary about the Southern Methodist University football scandal in the 1980s.
This film was released on DVD in 2010, both separately and as part of the 30 for 30 box set. The DVD cover, depicting Michael Irvin, originally had the "U" logo on his helmet, but it was airbrushed from the cover after the University of Miami objected to the logo's appearance. Excerpts from Florida State University's "Seminole Rap" video that initially appeared in the documentary were also cut from the DVD release.
In December 2014, ESPN released a second 30 for 30, titled The U Part 2. The film documents the second rise to glory of the Miami Hurricanes football team in the late 1990s and early 2000s followed by the eventual fall of the program, due largely to a scandal in which multiple top players accepted cash rewards from booster, Nevin Shapiro.

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-to-avoid-at-university-of-utah/ - The University of Utah is a wonderful school. It is a great place to learn about the world, and to learn about your self. Yet, there are a few things to be avoided while at The U. The majority are just inconveniences that can be avoided by a little foresight. The following list will help you navigate some of the few difficult or strenuous events that you might encounter at The U. If you are going to park on campus be ready for a nightmare. Buying a pass doesn’t ensure you will find a spot near your class, or even a spot at all. The park permit system has multiple tiers. If you are set on parking look into getting an ‘I’ pass instead of the lowest level ‘E’.

We had so much fun creating this travel guide of our hometown, Salt Lake City! It gave us a fresh perspective of how beautiful our home really is. It goes to show that no matter where you live, you can always find beauty near by. It's all about seeing your home with new eyes! On a different note, we filmed this just three weeks after having Greta, and I loved packing her around in my Solly Baby wraps! To me, there is nothing better than baby wearing. :) Solly Baby wraps: http://sollybaby.com/ -- THANKS FOR SUBSCRIBING & FOLLOWING OUR JOURNEY! -- INSTAGRAM: @haileydevine & @bradleydevine TWITTER: @haileydevine3 & @devine_brad SNAPCHAT: @haileydevine3 & @brad_devine WEBSITE/BLOG: http://www.somewheredevine.com VIDEO WORKSHOPS: http://www.somewheredevine.com/workshop

This we all know: Travel changes people. If nothing else, it broadens their horizons, and introduces them to new cultures, languages and ideas. Better yet, it helps them to see the world through other people's eyes, fundamentally alters the way they engage with... well, with everything, including themselves. In anticipation of the New York Travel Festival ( #NYTF , more about that below), a group of leading scholars, sustainability advocates and travel-adventure planners/guides/specialists is coming together for a Google+ Hangout on Air to discuss and explore the kind of travel that transforms. The panelists are: * Dr. +Kelly Bricker -- Chair, Global Sustainable Tourism Council (http://www.gstcouncil.org); Chair, +The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) (http://www.ecotourism.org/...

The University of Utah has created and hosts our Quality Course Framework tutorial in Canvas. The tutorial is self-paced; an introductory assessment helps instructors identify where in the course design process they need to begin. Each module within the process demonstrates course organization and structure, and leads instructors through a complete learning activity and an assessment before they move on to the next step in the process. The Canvas tutorial is publicly available, supporting the creation of multidisciplinary learning communities among instructors, and allowing instructors from any institution to access our Quality Course Framework in designing their own courses.
