Jurassic Park may be the first thing that comes to mind when you see Aogashima Island from the air - but yes, THIS IS TOKYO!
It's famous for having a volcano inside a volcano surrounded by dense jungle. It's also considered the smallest town in Japan and the hardest place in Japan to get to. There is no direct transportation to Aogashima. These facts are what make Aogashima the best kept secret in Tokyo!

HOW TO GET TO AOGASHIMA
Air
▶︎ Haneda Airport (Tokyo) to Hachijojima / 50 minutes
▶︎ Helicopter to Aogashima - 20 minutes / 11,530 Yen
Note: You have to take the first flight to catch the helicopter or spend the night. Only 1 helicopter flight per day.
Sea (Ferry)
▶︎ Takeshiba Pier (Tokyo) to Hachijojima 11-12 hours / Tokai Kisen Line /
▶︎ Hachijojima to Aogashima / 3 hours / Izu Shoto Kaihatsu Line
Note: The ferry to Aogashima is often canceled so don't rely on this if you need to be back to Tokyo for a flight etc. It can be delayed for as long as 1 week depending on weather!
WHY IS THIS THE HARDEST PLACE TO GET TO?
The town is located 200 meters up off the sea. There is no airport and this island is only accessible by helicopter and ferry. The port is one of the most challenging to dock at in the world so when the sea is rough or the wind is too strong, ferries are often canceled. Visitors may be stranded here for a week or more if the weather turns bad.

THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT VISITING AOGASHIMA
1) You must have a reservation to stay somewhere before arriving. Lodging is limited. Call ahead, even for camping.
2) There is an ATM at the post office but come with cash just in case
3) Helicopters are often sold out a month in advance. Ferry tickets are easy to get but your departure date may not be convenient.
4) Walking is possible everywhere but many tourists rent a car. Other tourists may pick you up if you hitchhike. It takes 80 minutes to walk from the heliport to Aogashima pier.

Far out to sea from the city of Tokyo, over 1,000 kilometers away are Tokyo's hidden islands called the Ogasawaras. Few tourists have ever heard of them. It's off the tourist radar. Why?
There is no plane ー only a 24 hour ferry ride from Takeshiba Port in the city to Chichijima once a week. When you make a trip to the Ogasawaras (also known as the Bonin Islands) you make a commitment to stay for a while. What you find on the other side is a tropical island paradise that many call the Galapagos of the East.
The deep blue water here even has its own name ー Bonin Blue.
Most of the islanders can speak native English and this is where Chichijima's history comes in.
In 1830, Nathaniel Savory came from Hawaii with about 30 colonists to settle on an island known as the Bonins.
The island was made up of American, Europeans and Pacific Islanders - a diverse island in Japan.
In 1853, Commodore Perry of the US Navy stopped here with the Black ship on his way to Edo (Tokyo) to open up Japan and made Nathaniel Governor of the island.
In 1862 Japan claimed the islands and renamed in Ogasawara in 1876. After World War II, the US took possession of the island and returned it to Japan in 1968. Now, the islands are an example of how a diverse Japanese island can live peacefully together.
In this episode we'll explore the jungles, cross the island by motorcycle, learn the history and see why this is the most amazing island you've never heard about.

Did you know that Tokyo has islands? Yes, the prefecture (province/state) of Tokyo has a volcanic chain of islands called the Izu Seven Islands group. We stayed at Shikinejima (Shikine-jima), which is a small island 3 km long by 2.5 km wide that is located 160 km south of the city of Tokyo. To get there, we took an overnight ferry, where we slept on a carpeted floor.

Shikine-jima Island in the Izu Islands (Niijima Village, Tokyo) is a small island about three hours from Tokyo to the Tokai-kisen high-speed jet ship.
There are a lot of quiet coves, beaches and beautiful coastline with a clear sea and white sandy beaches that I don't think is an island in Tokyo.

I'm heading back to Tokyo via Ferry from Hachijojima Island.
The trip takes about 11-12 hours and costs ¥10,060 (about $92) for 2nd class B tickets (the cheapest one).
There are vending machines galore onboard as well as a restaurant, buy tickets from the vending machine and find your own seat, cafeteria style.
I flew from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Hachijojima 10 days ago (1 hour / ¥13,500 or $120) but boat is convenient if you want to camp. The ferry pier at Hachijojima is only a 200 meter walk to the free camping area.

伊豆諸島の八丈島（東京都 八丈町）は、東京から南へ300kmの場所にあり、温暖な気候です。降水量が多いので多様な亜熱帯のシダ植物が自生し、ヘゴの自生北限地として知られています。
滝の裏側から見る事ができる「裏見ヶ滝」周辺には多くのヘゴが自生しています。
「ポットホール」と呼ばれる岩盤を流れる水路にできる穴（くぼみ）は、八丈町の天然記念物です。
Hachijojima (Hachijo-cho, Tokyo) of the Izu Islands is located 300 km south of Tokyo and has a temperate climate. Due to the high rainfall, diverse subtropical ferns grow naturally and are known as large spiny tree fern native northern limit.
Many large spiny tree ferns are growing nicely around "Urami-ga-taki" where you can see from behind the waterfall.
A hole (dent) that can be made in a waterway flowing through a bedrock called "pot hole" is a natural treasure in Hachijo-machi.

6. Ile Aux Cygnes
This smalls artificial island is located on the River Seine in Paris and was created in 1827 in order to protect the port of Grenelle. Ile aux cygnes translates to the Island of Swans. It’s uninhabited for the most part except for this replica of Lady Liberty that stands about 70 feet tall, facing the direction of her much larger sister in New York City. 5. Nanhai Pearl Island
This artificial island located off the coast of Holiday beach in China is currently under construction and will be an enormous tourist attraction with hotels, shipyard, cruiseships and a theme park. It currently has one bridge that connects it to the mainland of Hainan China. China has become notorious lately with their construction of artificial islands. They caused some controversy when they began constructing many islands and then militarizing them and turning them into airbase fortresses of the China Sea, which we’ll get into more later. But this one here is supposed to be for touristic purposes. Construction began in April 2016 and consists of a round, crescent shaped body, and somewhat seems like a response to Dubai’s artificial islands.
4. Islands of Uros
The Uros people of Peru live very simple lives on floating artificial islands. These islands are actually made of reeds that grow on the edges of Lake Titicaca. These reeds are harvested, bundled tightly and small settlements are built on top of them.The Uros are very mysterious people and legend has it that they have black blood and have seemingly magical tolerance to cold weather. The purpose of the island settlements were originally for defensive purposes and if they came into threats from invading tribes they could simply move their homes on this islands. Each island houses anywhere from 2-10 families depending on the size. Local residents enjoy a variety of different resources that Lake titicaca provides which include, a large variety of fish, birds such as flamingos and even graze cattle on their islands. Simply fascinating.
3. Palm Jumeirah
How would you feel about living on an extremely large man made island in the Persian Gulf? Sounds like it could be intriguing. These also belong to the flamboyant United Arab Emirates. But instead of taking the shape of the world, these cluster of islands are shaped like a palm tree and are much utilized than it’s neighboring chain of islands. The palm tree consists of a trunk that acts like a bridge to the mainland with 16 fronds and a surrounding crescent shaped island. This is the home the to luxurious Palm Atlantis Hotel which began construction in 2001. This adds an extra 40 miles to Dubai’s coastline and was built with over 7 million tons of stone. They kept the nearby ecosystem in mind and used natural rock to encourage natural reef creation by the sea life.
2. Thilafushi Maldives
The Maldives are known for being an excellent resort country in the middle of the indian ocean. Its beautiful beaches are flocked to by millions of tourists each year. One of its least popular islands, however, isn’t really natural. The thilafushi island is built on top of reclaimed coral reefs in 1992 not to house a 5 star resort, but to house the garbage left by tourists and locals alike. It was built as a landfill and given the nickname garbage island. In 2005, it’s estimated that 31000 truckloads of garbage were transported to this island each year and it continues to grow each year at the rate of 365,000 square feet a day! The BBC even described the waste on the island was apocalyptic.
1.Chinese War Islands
In recent years, it’s been China’s goal to beef up their military presence especially in the South China Sea where these islands are located. Their building islands here on international waters at an exponential rate at there seems to be no end in sight. The US navy and rival Asian counterparts dispute these practices as being aggressive and unnecessary. This is part of their plan to build dominance as a commercial and military power and no one wants to tell them to stop. This guarantees that tension in this area will continue to rise especially as Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines don’t appreciate this one bit. Just because it’s called the China Sea, doesn’t make it theirs! It’s a crucial trade route with more than 5 trillion dollars worth of international shipping each year, in which China has no historical ties with. If something isn’t done about these islands soon, it could very well lead to world war 3.

Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The song was released as the second single from that album on November 19, 2007 (see 2007 in British music). The song charted at #198 making it Athlete's lowest charting single to date, partly due to a lack of promotion, and partly due to UK Chart guidelines discounting sales of the EP version (thus only sales of the 7" were counted).

Other popular attractions include the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Sensō-ji, a popular temple. Finally, many tourists, particularly foreign tourists, visit Tsukiji Fish Market, as the time-zone difference leads to foreign visitors waking up very early local time.

Far out to sea from the city of Tokyo, over 1,000 kilometers away are Tokyo's hidden islands called the Ogasawaras. Few tourists have ever heard of them. It's off the tourist radar. Why? There is no plane ー only a 24 hour ferry ride from Takeshiba Port in the city to Chichijima once a week. When you make a trip to the Ogasawaras (also known as the Bonin Islands) you make a commitment to stay for a while. What you find on the other side is a tropical island paradise that many call the Galapagos of the East. The deep blue water here even has its own name ー Bonin Blue. Most of the islanders can speak native English and this is where Chichijima's history comes in. In 1830, Nathaniel Savory came from Hawaii with about 30 colonists to settle on an island known as the Bonins. The island was made up of American, Europeans and Pacific Islanders - a diverse island in Japan. In 1853, Commodore Perry of the US Navy stopped here with the Black ship on his way to Edo (Tokyo) to open up Japan and made Nathaniel Governor of the island. In 1862 Japan claimed the islands and renamed in Ogasawara in 1876. After World War II, the US took possession of the island and returned it to Japan in 1968. Now, the islands are an example of how a diverse Japanese island can live peacefully together. I'm heading back to Tokyo via Ferry from Hachijojima Island. The trip takes about 11-12 hours and costs ¥10,060 (about $92) for 2nd class B tickets (the cheapest one). There are vending machines galore onboard as well as a restaurant, buy tickets from the vending machine and find your own seat, cafeteria style. I flew from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Hachijojima 10 days ago (1 hour / ¥13,500 or $120) but boat is convenient if you want to camp. The ferry pier at Hachijojima is only a 200 meter walk to the free camping area. Ile Aux Cygnes This smalls artificial island is located on the River Seine in Paris and was created in 1827 in order to protect the port of Grenelle. Ile aux cygnes translates to the Island of Swans. It’s uninhabited for the most part except for this replica of Lady Liberty that stands about 70 feet tall, facing the direction of her much larger sister in New York City. It was originally facing the direction of the Eiffel Tower but ... 5. Nanhai Pearl Island This artificial island located off the coast of Holiday beach in China is currently under construction and will be an enormous tourist attraction with hotels, shipyard, cruiseships and a theme park. It currently has one bridge that connects it to the mainland of Hainan China. China has become notorious lately with their construction of artificial islands. They caused some controversy when they began constructing many islands and then militarizing them and turning them into airbase fortresses of the China Sea, which we’ll get into more later. But this one here is supposed to be for touristic purposes. Construction began in April 2016 and consists of a round, crescent shaped body, and somewhat seems like a response to Dubai’s artificial islands. 4. Islands of Uros The Uros people of Peru live very simple lives on floating artificial islands. These islands are actually made of reeds that grow on the edges of Lake Titicaca. These reeds are harvested, bundled tightly and small settlements are built on top of them.The Uros are very mysterious people and legend has it that they have black blood and have seemingly magical tolerance to cold weather. The purpose of the island settlements were originally for defensive purposes and if they came into threats from invading tribes they could simply move their homes on this islands. Each island houses anywhere from 2-10 families depending on the size. Local residents enjoy a variety of different resources that Lake titicaca provides which include, a large variety of fish, birds such as flamingos and even graze cattle on their islands. Simply fascinating. 3. Palm Jumeirah How would you feel about living on an extremely large man made island in the Persian Gulf? Sounds like it could be intriguing. These also belong to the flamboyant United Arab Emirates. But instead of taking the shape of the world, these cluster of islands are shaped like a palm tree and are much utilized than it’s neighboring chain of islands. The palm tree consists of a trunk that acts like a bridge to the mainland with 16 fronds and a surrounding crescent shaped island. This is the home the to luxurious Palm Atlantis Hotel which began construction in 2001. This adds an extra 40 miles to Dubai’s coastline and was built with over 7 million tons of stone. They kept the nearby ecosystem in mind and used natural rock to encourage natural reef creation by the sea life. 2. Thilafushi Maldives The Maldives are known for being an excellent resort country in the middle of the indian ocean. Its beautiful beaches are flocked to by millions of tourists each year. One of its least popular islands, however, isn’t really natural. The thilafushi island is built on top of reclaimed coral reefs in 1992 not to house a 5 star resort, but to house the garbage left by tourists and locals alike. It was built as a landfill and given the nickname garbage island. In 2005, it’s estimated that 31000 truckloads of garbage were transported to this island each year and it continues to grow each year at the rate of 365,000 square feet a day! The BBC even described the waste on the island was apocalyptic. 1.Chinese War Islands In recent years, it’s been China’s goal to beef up their military presence especially in the South China Sea where these islands are located. Their building islands here on international waters at an exponential rate at there seems to be no end in sight. The US navy and rival Asian counterparts dispute these practices as being aggressive and unnecessary. This is part of their plan to build dominance as a commercial and military power and no one wants to tell them to stop. This guarantees that tension in this area will continue to rise especially as Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines don’t appreciate this one bit. Just because it’s called the China Sea, doesn’t make it theirs! It’s a crucial trade route with more than 5 trillion dollars worth of international shipping each year, in which China has no historical ties with. If something isn’t done about these islands soon, it could very well lead to world war 3. -

I'm heading back to Tokyo via Ferry from Hachijojima Island. The trip takes about 11-12 hours and costs ¥10,060 (about $92) for 2nd class B tickets (the cheapest one). The town is located 200 meters up off the sea. There is no airport and this island is only accessible by helicopter and ferry. The port is one of the most challenging to dock at in the world so when the sea is rough or the wind is too strong, ferries are often canceled. Visitors may be stranded here for a week or more if the weather turns bad.

4) Walking is possible everywhere but many tourists rent a car. Other tourists may pick you up if you hitchhike. It takes 80 minutes to walk from the heliport to Aogashima pier.

Far out to sea from the city of Tokyo, over 1,000 kilometers away are Tokyo's hidden islands called the Ogasawaras. Few tourists have ever heard of them. It's off the tourist radar. Why?
There is no plane ー only a 24 hour ferry ride from Takeshiba Port in the city to Chichijima once a week. When you make a trip to the Ogasawaras (also known as the Bonin Islands) you make a commitment to stay for a while. What you find on the other side is a tropical island paradise that many call the Galapagos of the East.
The deep blue water here even has its own name ー Bonin Blue.
Most of the islanders can speak native English and this is where Chichijima's history comes in.
In 1830, Nathaniel Savory came from Hawaii with about 30 colonists to settle on an island known as the Bonins.
The island was made up of American, Europeans and Pacific Islanders - a diverse island in Japan.
In 1853, Commodore Perry of the US Navy stopped here with the Black ship on his way to Edo (Tokyo) to open up Japan and made Nathaniel Governor of the island.
In 1862 Japan claimed the islands and renamed in Ogasawara in 1876. After World War II, the US took possession of the island and returned it to Japan in 1968. Now, the islands are an example of how a diverse Japanese island can live peacefully together.
In this episode we'll explore the jungles, cross the island by motorcycle, learn the history and see why this is the most amazing island you've never heard about.

Did you know that Tokyo has islands? Yes, the prefecture (province/state) of Tokyo has a volcanic chain of islands called the Izu Seven Islands group. We stayed at Shikinejima (Shikine-jima), which is a small island 3 km long by 2.5 km wide that is located 160 km south of the city of Tokyo. To get there, we took an overnight ferry, where we slept on a carpeted floor.

There are a lot of quiet coves, beaches and beautiful coastline with a clear sea and white sandy beaches that I don't think is an island in Tokyo.

I'm heading back to Tokyo via Ferry from Hachijojima Island.
The trip takes about 11-12 hours and costs ¥10,060 (about $92) for 2nd class B tickets (the cheapest one).
There are vending machines galore onboard as well as a restaurant, buy tickets from the vending machine and find your own seat, cafeteria style.
I flew from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Hachijojima 10 days ago (1 hour / ¥13,500 or $120) but boat is convenient if you want to camp. The ferry pier at Hachijojima is only a 200 meter walk to the free camping area.

Hachijojima (Hachijo-cho, Tokyo) of the Izu Islands is located 300 km south of Tokyo and has a temperate climate. Due to the high rainfall, diverse subtropical ferns grow naturally and are known as large spiny tree fern native northern limit.
Many large spiny tree ferns are growing nicely around "Urami-ga-taki" where you can see from behind the waterfall.
A hole (dent) that can be made in a waterway flowing through a bedrock called "pot hole" is a natural treasure in Hachijo-machi.

Because the geology of the island is a white rhyolite, the coast is a beautiful white sandy beach.
Located on the east coast of the island, the Habushiura beach is a beautiful beach with world famous surfing spots, white sand beach and accompanying milky blue sea lasting 7 kilometers.

6. Ile Aux Cygnes
This smalls artificial island is located on the River Seine in Paris and was created in 1827 in order to protect the port of Grenelle. Ile aux cygnes translates to the Island of Swans. 5. Nanhai Pearl Island
This artificial island located off the coast of Holiday beach in China is currently under construction and will be an enormous tourist attraction with hotels, shipyard, cruiseships and a theme park. It currently has one bridge that connects it to the mainland of Hainan China. China has become notorious lately with their construction of artificial islands. They caused some controversy when they began constructing many islands and then militarizing them and turning them into airbase fortresses of the China Sea, which we’ll get into more later. But this one here is supposed to be for touristic purposes. Construction began in April 2016 and consists of a round, crescent shaped body, and somewhat seems like a response to Dubai’s artificial islands.
4. Islands of Uros
The Uros people of Peru live very simple lives on floating artificial islands. These islands are actually made of reeds that grow on the edges of Lake Titicaca. These reeds are harvested, bundled tightly and small settlements are built on top of them.The Uros are very mysterious people and legend has it that they have black blood and have seemingly magical tolerance to cold weather. The purpose of the island settlements were originally for defensive purposes and if they came into threats from invading tribes they could simply move their homes on this islands. Each island houses anywhere from 2-10 families depending on the size. Local residents enjoy a variety of different resources that Lake titicaca provides which include, a large variety of fish, birds such as flamingos and even graze cattle on their islands. Simply fascinating.
3. Palm Jumeirah
How would you feel about living on an extremely large man made island in the Persian Gulf? Sounds like it could be intriguing. These also belong to the flamboyant United Arab Emirates. But instead of taking the shape of the world, these cluster of islands are shaped like a palm tree and are much utilized than it’s neighboring chain of islands. The palm tree consists of a trunk that acts like a bridge to the mainland with 16 fronds and a surrounding crescent shaped island. This is the home the to luxurious Palm Atlantis Hotel which began construction in 2001. This adds an extra 40 miles to Dubai’s coastline and was built with over 7 million tons of stone. They kept the nearby ecosystem in mind and used natural rock to encourage natural reef creation by the sea life.
2. Thilafushi Maldives
The Maldives are known for being an excellent resort country in the middle of the indian ocean. Its beautiful beaches are flocked to by millions of tourists each year. One of its least popular islands, however, isn’t really natural. The thilafushi island is built on top of reclaimed coral reefs in 1992 not to house a 5 star resort, but to house the garbage left by tourists and locals alike. It was built as a landfill and given the nickname garbage island. In 2005, it’s estimated that 31000 truckloads of garbage were transported to this island each year and it continues to grow each year at the rate of 365,000 square feet a day! The BBC even described the waste on the island was apocalyptic.

In recent years, it’s been China’s goal to beef up their military presence especially in the South China Sea where these islands are located. Their building islands here on international waters at an exponential rate at there seems to be no end in sight. The US navy and rival Asian counterparts dispute these practices as being aggressive and unnecessary. This is part of their plan to build dominance as a commercial and military power and no one wants to tell them to stop. This guarantees that tension in this area will continue to rise especially as Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines don’t appreciate this one bit. Just because it’s called the China Sea, doesn’t make it theirs! It’s a crucial trade route with more than 5 trillion dollars worth of international shipping each year, in which China has no historical ties with. If something isn’t done about these islands soon, it could very well lead to world war 3.

Footage has emerged of a new island being formed in a volcanic chain some 1000km south of Tokyo. The 200 metre wide spit of land will probably not survive for long, as most volcanic islands are either destroyed during their creation or sink below the waves shortly after. If it survives, it will be the first new island in the area since 1974.

Footage has emerged of a new island being formed in a volcanic chain some 1000km south of Tokyo. The 200 metre wide spit of land will probably not survive for long, as most volcanic islands are either destroyed during their creation or sink below the waves shortly after. If it survives, it will be the first new island in the area since 1974.

HOW TO GET TO AOGASHIMA
Air
▶︎ Haneda Airport (Tokyo) to Hachijojima / 50 minutes
▶︎ Helicopter to Aogashima - 20 minutes / 11,530 Yen
Note: You have to take the first flight to catch the helicopter or spend the night. Only 1 helicopter flight per day.
Sea (Ferry)
▶︎ Takeshiba Pier (Tokyo) to Hachijojima 11-12 hours / Tokai Kisen Line /
▶︎ Hachijojima to Aogashima / 3 hours / Izu Shoto Kaihatsu Line
Note: The ferry to Aogashima is often canceled so don't rely on this if you need to be back to Tokyo for a flight etc. It can be delayed for as long as 1 week depending on weather!
WHY IS THIS THE HARDEST PLACE TO GET TO?
The town is located 200 meters up off the sea. There is no airport and this island is only accessible by helicopter and ferry. The port is one of the most challenging to dock at in the world so when the sea is rough or the wind is too strong, ferries are often canceled. Visitors may be stranded here for a week or more if the weather turns bad.

THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT VISITING AOGASHIMA
1) You must have a reservation to stay somewhere before arriving. Lodging is limited. Call ahead, even for camping.
2) There is an ATM at the post office but come with cash just in case
3) Helicopters are often sold out a month in advance. Ferry tickets are easy to get but your departure date may not be convenient.
4) Walking is possible everywhere but many tourists rent a car. Other tourists may pick you up if you hitchhike. It takes 80 minutes to walk from the heliport to Aogashima pier.

Far out to sea from the city of Tokyo, over 1,000 kilometers away are Tokyo's hidden islands called the Ogasawaras. Few tourists have ever heard of them. It's off the tourist radar. Why?
There is no plane ー only a 24 hour ferry ride from Takeshiba Port in the city to Chichijima once a week. When you make a trip to the Ogasawaras (also known as the Bonin Islands) you make a commitment to stay for a while. What you find on the other side is a tropical island paradise that many call the Galapagos of the East.
The deep blue water here even has its own name ー Bonin Blue.
Most of the islanders can speak native English and this is where Chichijima's history comes in.
In 1830, Nathaniel Savory came from Hawaii with about 30 colonists to settle on an island known as the Bonins.
The island was made up of American, Europeans and Pacific Islanders - a diverse island in Japan.
In 1853, Commodore Perry of the US Navy stopped here with the Black ship on his way to Edo (Tokyo) to open up Japan and made Nathaniel Governor of the island.
In 1862 Japan claimed the islands and renamed in Ogasawara in 1876. After World War II, the US took possession of the island and returned it to Japan in 1968. Now, the islands are an example of how a diverse Japanese island can live peacefully together.
In this episode we'll explore the jungles, cross the island by motorcycle, learn the history and see why this is the most amazing island you've never heard about.

We stayed at Shikinejima (Shikine-jima), which is a small island 3 km long by 2.5 km wide that is located 160 km south of the city of Tokyo. To get there, we took an overnight ferry, where we slept on a carpeted floor.

Shikine-jima Island in the Izu Islands (Niijima Village, Tokyo) is a small island about three hours from Tokyo to the Tokai-kisen high-speed jet ship.
There are a lot of quiet coves, beaches and beautiful coastline with a clear sea and white sandy beaches that I don't think is an island in Tokyo.

I'm heading back to Tokyo via Ferry from Hachijojima Island.
The trip takes about 11-12 hours and costs ¥10,060 (about $92) for 2nd class B tickets (the cheapest one).
There are vending machines galore onboard as well as a restaurant, buy tickets from the vending machine and find your own seat, cafeteria style.
I flew from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Hachijojima 10 days ago (1 hour / ¥13,500 or $120) but boat is convenient if you want to camp. The ferry pier at Hachijojima is only a 200 meter walk to the free camping area.

滝の裏側から見る事ができる「裏見ヶ滝」周辺には多くのヘゴが自生しています。
「ポットホール」と呼ばれる岩盤を流れる水路にできる穴（くぼみ）は、八丈町の天然記念物です。
Hachijojima (Hachijo-cho, Tokyo) of the Izu Islands is located 300 km south of Tokyo and has a temperate climate. Due to the high rainfall, diverse subtropical ferns grow naturally and are known as large spiny tree fern native northern limit.
Many large spiny tree ferns are growing nicely around "Urami-ga-taki" where you can see from behind the waterfall.
A hole (dent) that can be made in a waterway flowing through a bedrock called "pot hole" is a natural treasure in Hachijo-machi.

6. Ile Aux Cygnes

5. Nanhai Pearl Island
This artificial island located off the coast of Holiday beach in China is currently under construction and will be an enormous tourist attraction with hotels, shipyard, cruiseships and a theme park. It currently has one bridge that connects it to the mainland of Hainan China. China has become notorious lately with their construction of artificial islands. They caused some controversy when they began constructing many islands and then militarizing them and turning them into airbase fortresses of the China Sea, which we’ll get into more later. But this one here is supposed to be for touristic purposes. Construction began in April 2016 and consists of a round, crescent shaped body, and somewhat seems like a response to Dubai’s artificial islands.
4. Islands of Uros
The Uros people of Peru live very simple lives on floating artificial islands. These islands are actually made of reeds that grow on the edges of Lake Titicaca. These reeds are harvested, bundled tightly and small settlements are built on top of them.The Uros are very mysterious people and legend has it that they have black blood and have seemingly magical tolerance to cold weather. The purpose of the island settlements were originally for defensive purposes and if they came into threats from invading tribes they could simply move their homes on this islands. Each island houses anywhere from 2-10 families depending on the size. Local residents enjoy a variety of different resources that Lake titicaca provides which include, a large variety of fish, birds such as flamingos and even graze cattle on their islands. Simply fascinating.
3. Palm Jumeirah
How would you feel about living on an extremely large man made island in the Persian Gulf? Sounds like it could be intriguing. These also belong to the flamboyant United Arab Emirates. But instead of taking the shape of the world, these cluster of islands are shaped like a palm tree and are much utilized than it’s neighboring chain of islands. The palm tree consists of a trunk that acts like a bridge to the mainland with 16 fronds and a surrounding crescent shaped island. This is the home the to luxurious Palm Atlantis Hotel which began construction in 2001. This adds an extra 40 miles to Dubai’s coastline and was built with over 7 million tons of stone. They kept the nearby ecosystem in mind and used natural rock to encourage natural reef creation by the sea life.
2. Thilafushi Maldives
The Maldives are known for being an excellent resort country in the middle of the indian ocean. Its beautiful beaches are flocked to by millions of tourists each year. One of its least popular islands, however, isn’t really natural. The thilafushi island is built on top of reclaimed coral reefs in 1992 not to house a 5 star resort, but to house the garbage left by tourists and locals alike. It was built as a landfill and given the nickname garbage island. In 2005, it’s estimated that 31000 truckloads of garbage were transported to this island each year and it continues to grow each year at the rate of 365,000 square feet a day! The BBC even described the waste on the island was apocalyptic.
1.Chinese War Islands
In recent years, it’s been China’s goal to beef up their military presence especially in the South China Sea where these islands are located. Their building islands here on international waters at an exponential rate at there seems to be no end in sight. The US navy and rival Asian counterparts dispute these practices as being aggressive and unnecessary. This is part of their plan to build dominance as a commercial and military power and no one wants to tell them to stop. This guarantees that tension in this area will continue to rise especially as Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines don’t appreciate this one bit. Just because it’s called the China Sea, doesn’t make it theirs! It’s a crucial trade route with more than 5 trillion dollars worth of international shipping each year, in which China has no historical ties with. If something isn’t done about these islands soon, it could very well lead to world war 3.

Footage has emerged of a new island being formed in a volcanic chain some 1000km south of Tokyo. The 200 metre wide spit of land will probably not survive for long, as most volcanic islands are either destroyed during their creation or sink below the waves shortly after. If it survives, it will be the first new island in the area since 1974.

Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).
