Anaheim, California

Anaheim (pronounced /ˈænəhaɪm/) is a city in Orange County, California, part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 336,265, making it the most populous city in Orange County and the 10th most populous city in California. Anaheim is the second largest city in Orange County in terms of land area (after Irvine) and is known for its theme parks, sports teams, and convention center.

Anaheim was founded by fifty German families in 1857 and incorporated as the second city in Los Angeles County on March 18, 1876. The city developed into an industrial center, producing electronics, aircraft parts and canned fruit. It is the site of the Disneyland Resort, a world-famous grouping of theme parks and hotels which opened in 1955, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Honda Center and the Anaheim Convention Center.

Anaheim's city limits extend from Cypress in the west to the Riverside County line in the east and encompass a diverse collection of neighborhoods and communities. Anaheim Hills is a master-planned community located in the city's eastern stretches that is home to many sports stars and executives. Downtown Anaheim has three mixed-use historic districts, the largest of which is the Anaheim Colony. The Anaheim Resort, a commercial district, includes Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and numerous hotels and retail complexes. The Platinum Triangle, a neo-urban redevelopment district surrounding Angel Stadium, is planned to be populated with mixed-use streets and high-rises. Finally, Anaheim Canyon is an industrial district north of SR 91 and east of SR 57.

Main Event

Main Event (Previously known as 'Event TV' on Foxtel, and 'Main Attraction' on Austar) is Australia's only pay-per-view channel. It transmits through Foxtel and Optus Television, who jointly own the channel. It broadcasts major sporting and entertainment events such as boxing, professional wrestling, mixed martial arts and concerts.

The channel has broadcast the Anthony "The Man" Mundine vs. Danny Green boxing fight and has broadcast nearly every World Wrestling Entertainment pay-per-view since 2000 (There was a contract negotiation period that prevented the WWE from showing WWE pay-per-views between January 2003 and August 2003). Since May 2006 it has also been broadcasting Total Nonstop Action Wrestling pay-per-views, and since 2007, the Ultimate Fighting Championship started screening their PPV's. It also broadcast WWE's weekly programming (for free) over a 2-week period during 2006 while Fox8 was screening a marathon of The Simpsons, The channel would similarly do the same in early 2015 when Fox8 broadcast every episode of The Simpsons.

AMA Supercross Championship

Supercross is a form of indoor dirt bike racing and a newer version of motocross, the sport’s original form. This motorcycle racing sport involves off-road motorcycles on an artificially-made dirt track consisting of steep jumps and obstacles, whereas motocross takes place on long courses built on the dirt and terrain in natural environments. Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, is held from January through early May, primarily taking place in baseball and football stadiums, or covered domes. One contest is held at Daytona International Speedway, in the island that separates pit lane from the circuit. The supercross track takes all the obstacles of outdoor riding – jumps, turns, and bumps – and puts them in easy view of the spectators.

History

Supercross is a very technical sport. Supercross was derived from Motocross. While Motocross and Supercross are similar in many respects, there are significant differences as well. For example, Supercross races are heavily advertised and televised motorsports events held within major cities.
