The Scottish Handshake is a community-created melee weapon for the Demoman. It is a dark brown glass rum bottle, apparently made by the Demoman's DeGroot family ancestors in 1680.

This weapon functions identically to the Bottle.

The Scottish Handshake was later contributed to the Steam Workshop, at Valve's request.

The backpack icon was contributed by smash.mn

Unused content

• A model for a broken Scottish Handshake exists in the game's files, suggesting that it was supposed to break on impact. While this is currently unused, the Scottish Handshake's in-game kill icon and description still hints at this.

Bugs

• When the Scottish Handshake is dropped on death, the dropped prop will appear to stand upright on its cork in client view.

Trivia

• The term "Scottish Handshake" refers to the stereotype that a person of Scottish heritage greets people with physical assault, due to their stereotypical violent nature.
• The year the rum was supposedly made, 1680, was chosen because it was the year the notorious pirate Blackbeard was born.
• The weapon was originally showcased in the Medieval Update, together with the rest of Swashbuckler's Swag set.
