These filters are ISP based and filter all internet traffic arriving to your home or office. ALL devices connected to the router (including through Wi-Fi) will be protected.

Such filters have many advantages including:

·        They cover ALL devices connected to the router.

·        They are more difficult to bypass.

·        They are cheaper and easier to maintain if you have multiple devices

However an obvious limitation that devices are only protected when they are connected to the filtered network. If they connected to a different network they are no longer protected.

To counter this many network based filters especially in Israel have an option to install special software to block unfiltered networks and to reroute unfiltered internet traffic through your personal network.
