Our system is so terribly broken.
Sapir’s attempt to take her own life was successful only because of the army’s unofficial shoot first ask later policy.
She’s not the first to be desperate enough to end her own life this way, and she won’t be the last.
Should not be lost in this morning's hubbub:
Last night at the Lag Ba'Omer ceremony on Mt Meron, convicted sex offender and cult leader Eliezer Berland was permitted to light a bonfire, despite assurances from the government this wouldn't happen.
Absolutely shameful
The neighbourhoods affected are a mix of Jewish and Arab areas and include the university dorms in French Hill. The response from the municipality of “we don’t know when it will be fixed” is the sort of thing you say when a store is out of milk, not when half a city has no water.
Multiple neighbourhoods in East Jerusalem have had no water since 10am this morning, with no idea of when it will be fixed. Rather than the Jerusalem Municipality offering assistance to the thousands of people without water, local volunteers are having to do so instead.
Meet May Golan, Israel’s new minister for the newly created Ministry for the Advancement of Women.
Yes, the same May Golan that recently voted *against* a bill for electronic monitoring of domestic abusers—just 36 hours after another woman was murdered by her husband. 🧵

The British Monarchy is dead and dying and a relic of a different era. It should be left behind where it belongs. The entire display makes me sick, the swooning and bootlicking of the elite towards Charles that is being forced down the throats of an entire country makes me sick.
It’s always “pledge allegiance to King Charles” and “see what King Charles will be wearing to his coronation” and never: “The UK is spending £100 million on a party for a 74 year old billionaire who’s never had a job while 2 million pensioners live in poverty.”
While there aren’t many women in this government, there are a handful of them who are more qualified for this role than Golan.
This vote in the aftermath of a horrific triple homicide of a woman and her children last night seems deliberate, and cruel.
make no mistake, this government doesn’t care about the safety of women, and their decision to appoint May Golan into this made-up role only proves it.
She has never proven herself in the field of gender equality, and her appointment is a slap in the face to those who have.
Likud MK @GolanMay was officially appointed by the Knesset as Israel's new women's advancement minister.

i interrupt your scrolling to bring breaking and important news: we got a cat camera and it’s every bit as delightful and chaotic as you imagine it to be
Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez recorded a video of support for the anti-judicial reform protesters in Israel ahead of the 17th consecutive weeks of protests.
If this really is the reason he’s cancelled, it sounds to me like the prime minister is too scared to look at his constituents in the eye, never mind the huge portion of Diaspora Jewry who invest in Israel and are concerned about his leadership.

PM Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled his participation in a huge Sunday evening event in honor of Israel's 75th Independence Day - presumably because of the huge protests planned inside and outside of the Expo Tel Aviv convention center in Jerusalem.

The rabbi whose family was killed in a recent shooting attack says he “holds no hatred” and “most Palestinians are good people.” He said he had received condolence messages from Palestinians and his wife’s organs were used to help a Palestinian patient:
Since Elon Musk is so insistent on transparency when it comes to how media outlets are funded, I thought it was only fair that he be given a tag as well
people need to let harry potter go, I promise there are other stories out there that deserve the film and tv budgets that continue to be poured into something that has already been done to death
The old city is covered in cameras, especially around Temple Mount, especially during Ramadan. It’s hard to believe that not even a second of footage was captured from this attack that was apparently so dangerous that they felt they had no other choice but to kill him.
A Bedouin man was shot and killed by Israel Police officers this morning, after they claimed he tried to shoot them. Eyewitnesses and his family have disputed this.
In an incredible coincidence, not a single security camera or body camera was turned on.
A new KAN poll shows that if elections were held today, for the first time in YEARS, Likud under Netanyahu would receive just 25 seats.
And the center-left would be able to build a 62 seat government.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid is speaking now, he’s said he will attend negotiations with the coalition, but that he’s aware the government might be playing games with them and that their intentions aren’t honest
In return for not leaving the coalition over the pause in judicial reform, national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir will receive his very own national guard, to do with whatever he wants.
🔴BREAKING: in response to Netanyahu’s words, the trade union leader has said that he’s ending the general strike. However, companies, workers and institutions may choose to continue the strike nevertheless
He also praised the right-wing protesters for their “spontaneous” protests, and said he was proud of them.
Never mind the ones who came, threatening violence, threatening to “destroy leftists.”
Netanyahu has, as expected, delayed the judicial reform bill until the next Knesset session. He didn’t mention that he’s granted Ben-Gvir the authority to build his own National Guard in return for him promising not to leave the coalition.
🔴Netanyahu is finally speaking after a full day of silence. He’s not said the words “judicial reform” yet, but he has said that violent leftist protesters are the reason the country is divided
ok take two (three?) he’s now set to speak at 8:05, so…now basically. We’ll see. I don’t think anything he’s planning on saying is going to stop the protests
