I think this is why academics have blogs. So they can publicly validate every piece of research they did that didn’t end up in the final paper. It’s too emotionally devastating to spend a year in an archive and cite it only once in the final paper.

There has to be a name for the research fallacy that suggests that simply because you spent a lot of time going through some sources, those sources must likewise appear in the final work at a rate commiserate with the effort you put in. It’s hard deleting stuff that took months.

Even if you assume a direct correspondence between taste and politics, and you obviously shouldn't, this is exactly the same as believing most who were young in the 60s were hippies or against Vietnam. twitter.com/BriannaWu/stat…

Also, I love being asked to contribute to anthology volumes, and would like to be asked even more. It's a great chance to reach an audience with a full and rich essay, which is not the kind of thing that there are numerous platforms for. The anthology is kind of the place.

It's unfortunate that non-fiction anthologies are almost completely missing from mainstream trade publishing. They allow for both a widening diversity of voices, but also the opportunity to narrow in on a subject. It's a shame how limited the publishing world remains.

I'm not at all faulting those synagogues and groups who work with the ADL to get security (or these people on the panel), but there has to be more substantial, engaging, and intersectional solutions with long-term efficacy.

There is talk of "volunteer security" at synagogues, but their solution is to work with private security company and police. Are there possibly other solutions? What about those presented by and others who create alternatives to militarized police?

In the session on dealing with antisemitic threats, there are very genuine intersectional observations, but then they immediately jump into police solutions without acknowledging how many congregants of color feel less safe due to police presence.
