    Yup, good description Kristian. PHP is the most serverless you can be for a server-side language.

    The point being that PHP tries to execute each request as stateless as possible, not keeping instances of things around between requests (compare: Java Application Servers). Instead PHP unserializes and reinstantiates at the request start and serializes at the end.

    3rd question about severless PHP in as many days. There is no such thing as serverless from the PHP perspective. It’s just a different deploy strategy and provider billing model. There are still servers running your PHP code.

    I have a cranky 16-year old ranting about null pointer exceptions in Java. Debugging his code, he was essentially writing C++ and was annoyed to figure out that Java doesn’t allocate memory the same way C++ does and he somehow blames me for that.
