My two year old son Resist just toddled up to me with tears in his eyes and said "Daddy, is this -- 'this' being a reference to Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter -- the end of the American experiment?"
I patted him on the said and said yes, it is. There is no hope left.
Holy shit man it's just bottomless. twitter.com/rutheday99/sta

There is something about the whole Edward Gallagher story, just the murder and the pardon and the Fox News bullshit and everything else, that somehow hits me more viscerally in an America-is-broken sense than a bunch of other stories that are objectively a lot more important.

As a Jewish person I'm concerned that wildly popular people like Robin DiAngelo are ACTIVELY ENCOURAGING whites to view themselves as a unified collective without a moment's thought as to how reviving this scientifically asinine and historically disastrous idea could backfire.
How the FUCK does Twitter allow this video to still be up? The dude posts her license plate number. It is COMPELTELY unclear what happened. There is no context. The entire goal is to ruin this woman's life permanently over... flipping him off? 5 million views... twitter.com/karlosdillard_

The possibility of Elon Musk taking over Twitter is, in certain (arguably most) senses, America's very first 9/11
We really, really can't normalize this. This is, and should be seen as, a very disturbing thread from a once-righteous organization.
Because she is very on Twitter and has Harvard in her bio, Caraballo is seen by journalists with no subject-matter expertise as a serious voice on anti-disinformation/counterextremism stuff.

I ran into Andy Ngo so I started browbeating him for his obsession with antifa. I'll never forget what he said next: "Dude, it's me, Katie. We've been working together for more than two years? I'm not Andy."
Which is exactly how Ngo would try to weasel out of accountability.

I think if you're a white person concerned with fighting racism you should take extra care to make sure that you're actually doing that rather than joining some sort of cult with a racism-fighting facade, since the latter could seriously attenuate your racism-fighting efforts.

1/ Gender dysphoria is in the DSM-5. Despite endless rumor-mongering and misinformation to the contrary, it *is* considered a mental disorder. Maybe it shouldn't be! But it's beyond insane to suspend someone for expressing an opinion which lines up with the DSM. I have less and

I think some activists and journalists made the mistake of thinking "Eat shit," "Fuck you," "You want to kill kids," "You enable genocide," etc. could stave off a conversation about youth gender medicine, they're realizing that effort failed, and now they're freaking out over it.
Their feelings are causing them to boo a fact. This is terrible!

Only Whiteness and white people have true agency. Everyone else is their pawn, and if they don't have the right views, it's likely because Whiteness infected them. Asians might think they know what they want but they need NPR to help free them of their false consciousness.
These articles are utterly bizarre. It's like they're referring to an entirely different set of shootings than the ones we have video of. There's no attempt to make sense of those actual moments -- it's all rote recitation and archetypes.
Watching progressives and leftists celebrate a journalist getting assaulted -- even a journalist they have major disagreements with (as I do) -- is surreal. Just completely despicable and I can't believe anyone is doing it under their real name.

What feels like a disturbingly high proportion of left-of-center intellectual energy is being spent developing not new ideas or rebuttals to ideas, but derailing tactics that ensure a wider and wider swath of ideas can't be questioned at all. It's an unhealthy epistemic landscape
Within like a month of everyone broadcasting how desperate they were to punch Nazis, a female journalist friend of mine got punched in the head by some antifa goon. You just need to be really, really careful normalizing any sort of political violence, even something like this.
This sort of discourse drives me absolutely bananas and I think it is a direct result of media being increasingly dominated by people from super-privileged backgrounds
This has now escalated, over the years, from made-up rumors that I DM trans women inappropriately, to random death threats, to a surprising number of calls for me to kill myself, to a lurid publicly posted fantasy about raping me. I think maybe it's enough?
There's been a lot of anecdotal evidence, for years, that gender clinics are fast-tracking deeply troubled kids to permanent medical procedures. Anyone raising questions is accused of wanting trans kids DEAD. This will go down as a period of medical mania
That's four countries, all with top-tier healthcare systems, where scientists have looked into the evidence, said the local equivalent of "Holy shit," and determined access to blockers and hormones needs to be more tightly regulated. In the States? Lots of heads in lots of sand.

If you're a doctor or a psychologist and you're confident enough in your diagnostic capabilities to approve/perform a double mastectomy for a 15-year-old, and they reget it, shouldn't that haunt you for a little while?
Given that many online activists claim that if a 16-year-old wants to go on hormones and isn't allowed to, their suicide is inevitable -- a claim that likely influences real-life 16-year-olds -- I feel like it's not right to then mock those who do have regrets.
