So last week I was told, on live TV, that I "don't sound American" because I refused to let the hosts turn a conversation about my book and work into a conversation about Iran's supposed nuclear weapons. I published the clip, and some thoughts, here--

The theme of this trip has quickly become sanctions are wildly devastating, violent, intensely suffocating and need to be lifted immediately. We need to collectively give a damn and be organizing around/against this.

Carpets are central to Iranian culture, history & economy. ~80% are exported, w/nearly 1/2 going to the USA. But under the sanctions this number is required to go down to 0, which is devastating to the Iranian carpet industry, the craft, & everyone whose lives are attached to it.

Back in Iran for 2 weeks & the devastating weight of sanctions are everywhere. Even the carpet museum was a silent reminder of the 2 million Iranians involved in the carpet industry & whose work is affected by sanctions. (I've been sharing more on insta: )

Thank YOU! I've been thinking about the consumerism, exploitation and war and our place and role in it- and that talk was EXACTLY what I needed. It was the push I needed to catch up with the becauseweveread syllabus. Keep doing the good work 🌺👍🏽

Haha unfortunately, I'm too much of a visually-oriented person for that! I barely can keep focus to listen to podcasts myself haha!

One of the things that talked about that really stuck with me was how we need to start thinking about the clothes we wear, right next to our skin, and if our guiding values and principles align with them being a product of violence.

The Blue Tin Production co-op aims to address two major issues: "One is a major gap in the U.S. of ethical and transparent production," says . "And the second is a gap for immigrant and refugee women to be able to find work that is holistic."
