Like this mom, my mom brought in latkes for kids in our classes growing up. Kids loved them and it is indeed a fun way to learn about a different holiday/religion/culture, and it makes me sad that a teacher was afraid of doing that under threat of backlash.

I thought "surely this is overstating it" but the mom was indeed apparently told that a Chanukah presentation isn't under this grade's standards. She said the new parental rights law is backfiring as "schools are afraid to expose the kids to anything new and different"
