    WeakRefs are a power tool, and I do anticipate people using them more than they should. However, there are important use cases that are impossible without them, such as . I think the language should be powerful enough for these cases.

    JavaScript WeakRefs and finalizers are on the way to becoming a standard. This is terrible, terrible news and if you use JS you should know some stuff.

    I'm seeing the argument from certain quarters that "working groups are great for getting collaboration and feedback". This can be true in the breach, but this is not their design function, at least not as practiced in most Standards Development Organisations ("SDOs"). (thread)

    Note that Mozilla uses the same terminology, also encourages early "intent to implement" and says decision making is not blocked on getting feedback from other engines (which I applaud - priorities can legitimately be different and that's OK):

    I also don't understand the core argument here; is it *bad* to be seeking broad feedback? Is it bad to be building implementations to learn from and iterate on? Which part of this is mis-ordered?

    Sorry, that's definitely the one thing we won't do. It's the one thing NONE of my customers have ever asked me for. We will, however, continue investing heavily in paving the path (specs, web-platform-tests and shared infra like etc).
