    I’ve been told India played a key role in persuading China to ditch objections to Pakistan being placed on FATF grey list... something that, if true, will be hugely worrying to Pakistan. This Indian media article says the same thing:

    Instead of celebrating the support of Turkey, China & Saudi Arabia (who almost always stand by Pakistan) we should ask ourselves why we keep putting these great countries in this position. Pakistan should be a beacon, not a burden. It’s a time for shame, not celebration.

    Certainly a theme I’m hearing:

    The military should be embarassed today. The FATF situation is a product of its institutional stupidity. But don’t forget our civilian savior Nawaz Sharif. He gave us the fiasco at Ufa, and Kh Asif’s spiteful appointments at defense and FO. Ours is full spectrum epic fail.

    I’m told Pakistan will actually only be put on the grey list in June, so they potentially have time to persuade FATF members by then that they’ve done enough not to be put on it...
