    102 years ago today, the US entered World War I. On this date in 1920, a memorial to DC government employees who lost their lives in the war was dedicated in the District Building. In 2015, we had the memorial-known as "The Supreme Sacrifice"-professionally cleaned & conserved.

    The critic here is Leila Mechlin, a native Washingtonian. I disagree with most of what she says, but I enjoy how she says it. I don't have a sense of if it was unusual for a woman to be an architecture critic at the time, but she is terrific!
