4-9 is really just getting everyone to the same working directory (via loading the project), something that shouldn't be necessary in future versions of http://rstudio.cloud . It will automatically open the .Rproj in the project/ folder.

Oh and to answer your question, opening a temporary project preserves all the installed packages.

Worked for me, an "advanced beginneR" Note that in "getting started.rmd" text, there is no "insert chunk" option on the toolbar. It should be click on 'insert', then 'R' The "insert chunk" button is not labeled as such.

Going through the process without an http://rstudio.cloud account meant the project didn't open. Maybe add a step 0 about creating an RStudio cloud account?

hmmm...I thought it pushed you to the log in page, but that might be a good reordering: 1. get logged in (and/or signed up), 2. visit project.

You won't need to use github beyond scrolling down the linked page a little to read the instructions. Perhaps a better link for me to share would have been: https://github.com/cwickham/data-science-in-tidyverse/blob/master/99-Setup.md#to-get-started … which puts you right at the start of the instructions.

It works! Does the venue have strong wifi? I remember struggling to connect to internet when I was participating in the GIS tutorials at useR2017. Idk, if there is any work around for that though...
