Mrs. Tran is an 80-year-old Viet naturalized citizen. Her registration was “pending” due to “exact match.” She was flagged because whomever input her name hyphenated it. She was also listed as “male.” With Cam’s help, she was able to vote for today!

Georgia House Democrats c/o 2017 & 2018 at our first biennial: Women! People of color! Immigrants! LGBTQ! 🏳️‍🌈 Jewish! Under 50! Georgia’s diversity needs to be celebrated & reflected in our elected bodies — and we’re getting closer to that every election cycle!

Today is the last day to submit public comments to the Department of Homeland Security on the proposed changes to the “Public Charge” rule. Punishing immigrant families for basic food & housing assistance violates the spirit of America. Comment👇

As the daughter of immigrants & a welfare baby, I also refuse to stay silent about the Public Charge rule. My dad earned $3.35/hr at a mental hospital & studied on a cardboard box at night. He wasn’t punished when he needed help to feed me. Neither should any other immigrant.

Amar Mergensana, a 40-year-old Russian nationalist; Roxsana Rodriguez, a 33-year-old transgender woman from Honduras. Both fled due to fear of death & persecution. Both lawfully sought asylum. Both died on U.S. soil, in custody of ICE. They trusted America. We failed them.

You can now bring an interpreter to vote in ALL elections in Georgia! The Secretary of State settled this lawsuit in time for 12/4 run-off. Brains behind this victory: my sister . She spent the entire Thanksgiving holiday + pulled an all-nighter to get this done. ✊

I loved serving with Chairman Coleman. We recently visited Mary Lin, his alma mater. He remembered the names of all his teachers & pointed out their rooms. He talked to every student. As we left, he said to me “you have to protect public schools.”

My mom fled from Vietnam on a rickety boat. At sea, she encountered: — Thai pirates who pillaged the boat & raped the women; — A Thai fisherman who harbored her to safety. Both violated the law — but only one was on the right side of history. It mattered then & it matters now.
