In addition to our core work of providing translation to non-profit organizations, Translators without Borders also provides training for translators in local languages around the world. These training programs aim to increase local translation capacity, ultimately ensuring that more people have access to vital information, in the language that they understand.
TWB Kenya
In 2012 TWB opened an office in Nairobi Kenya, a facility where new translators could be trained in Kiswahili, as well as a number of the other 42 languages spoken in Kenya. Since the opening of the TWB Kenya office, TWB has provided basic translation training to over 250 people.
TWB in Guinea
Through the development of local translation capacity in Guinea, Translators without Borders is playing an important role in ensuring vital health information reaches the people who need it. TWB has been working in Guinea, in collaboration with eHealth Africa and the Ministry of Health on a program that aims to increase access to vital health information through the training of local translators who have translated 800,000 words of healthcare content.
Interpreter Training
As part of TWB's Words of Relief crisis response to the European refugee crisis in Greece and the Balkans, over 200 humanitarian partner staff and volunteers have been trained in the basic tools of interpreting and cultural mediation in a humanitarian crisis.
