Hello @BowenBBC , do you know whether this story will be taken up by the main news outlets?

Yes it will, since that’s who I work for!
-
I thought maybe an editorial decision might mean otherwise

I'm sure that will be grateful for the newly built village which includes a school, electricity and water supplies unlike the squatter camp they live in now. Read the history of the informal settlement and see the light.
-
They say the place offered by Israel is unsuitable, next to a rubbish dump, without space for their animals. Also it is a grave breach of international humanitarian law for an occupier to transfer the occupied from the homes against their will.

What's the rationale for destroying the village? Do you know?
-
Same as in the UK when travellers set up illegal encampments. It was built without planning permission on land the residents do not claim to own. The school was built too close to a major highway to be safe. Residents have been offered free plots of land nearby instead.
-
Ok, thank you. I guess the question of who actually does own the land is one that would take a while to work through?
-
This is not a real village. It is a EU-funded encampment built in order to take over an important spot of land above highway 1, in order to influence future borders. More details:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol8xdjoPbEs&t=118s …
-
The encampment was built illegally on state land. Israel asked the EU to build the school at a nearby legal location, but the EU insisted to build it illegally there. Israel offered the Bedouins their own free land with free infrastructures Israel built for them >>
-
The Bedouin resident in this video admitted to the camera European diplomats and the PA pressure the Bedouins there not to accept Israel's generous offers to an alternative location:https://twitter.com/RegavimIsrael/status/1039851310785417216 …

This state land is in an area designated in the Oslo peace agreement as "Area C". Both Israel and the PLO want it to be part of their territory, but until the final-status agreement will be signed, the Oslo agreement says it should be under full Israeli control.

You missed “and move them all to a brand new village with proper facilities” at the end of your Tweet. Many of the villagers moved years ago to their better lives. The remainers are political pawns used to beat Israel.
-
Yes I’m sure you would be so rational if the government decided to destroy your village and move you to a new village with “proper facilities”.. Why can’t they live on where and how they want!
-
They don't leave because they are pressured by the PA and by EU diplomats not to leave. Their encampment is controlling the important highway between Jerusalem to the Jordan Valley, and this is why they are used as pawns. See:https://twitter.com/RegavimIsrael/status/1039851310785417216 …

I question why Israel want to move them. How could a small encampment have any impact on an important route or corridor with Jordan. It’s just ethnic cleansing from what I see.
-
Because it is part of many small encampment the EU built along the highway. The vision of the EU is a total Arab control on the highway, cutting the Israeli corridor between Jerusalem to the Jordan Valley. More details here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol8xdjoPbEs …
-
Until 1967, Arab snipers sniped at Israeli motorists driving from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on highway 1 (west from Jerusalem) - they didn't want Israel to have any control on Jerusalem. Now the war on lands and highways shifted to the section of the highway east from Jerusalem.
-
The last illegal Palestinian encampment was built above the same highway only few days ago:https://twitter.com/Abc11Ab/status/1039463761894154241 …
