Annual Progress Report
Throughout your candidature, you will need to make progress reports to the University. Aside from the Confirmation of Candidature, all HDR students are required to complete an Annual Progress Report. Your faculty or department may have additional reporting requirements.
These reports are not to be confused with the Confirmation of Candidature and related reports.
Annual Progress Report
The Annual Progress Report (APR) allows the University to monitor and evaluate your progress, to ensure a quality and timely completion of the research program. It allows yourself and your supervisor(s) to reflect on your progress and plan for the year ahead. You should use the Annual Progress Report to highlight any difficulties you have experienced which has or may impact your research and request any training programs you may require.
If your Faculty indicates your progress as satisfactory, your candidature and scholarships will continue. The progress report is also reviewed during consideration of a candidate's request for Postgraduate Research Funding (PGRF) support.
Who needs to complete the Annual Progress Report?
Completion of the APR is mandatory for all PhD and MPhil candidates (but not for MRes candidates). If you are currently enrolled in the research component of your degree and have been for any length during the year, you must complete the APR. This includes students who have been asked to 'revise and resubmit' their thesis (major/minor changes are excluded).
You do not need to complete the Annual Progress Report if any of the following apply:
- You enrolled after 31 July 2017
- You have been on a continuous Leave of Absence since 1 January 2017
- You submitted your thesis to HDRO on or before 19 September 2017
- You notified the University of your complete withdrawal from your degree on or before 19 September 2017
Failure to complete the APR may result in a departmental review (https://staff.mq.edu.au/work/strategy-planning-and-governance/university-policies-and-procedures/policies/hdr-and-mres-termination-of-candidature), including the suspension of scholarship. If you are unable to submit by the due date or are unable to submit online, you must contact your Faculty HDR Manager and HDRO immediately.

The 2017 APR is now open. Keep in mind there may be missing numbers in your form - this is because not all questions will apply to all candidates.
