Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician. She is the current United States senator from California. She was the Attorney General of California from 2011 to 2017. She was elected in 2010.[1][2] Harris ran for the United States Senate seat of retiring Barbara Boxer, in the 2016 California senate elections. She won the election with 63% of the vote.
She was born in Oakland, California.
Harris is the state of California's first African-American female attorney general.[3] Her mother is Indian and her father is Jamaican American.
