Job Opening: Front-end developer

Scout is building the next generation of APM (Application Performance Monitoring). We take a lot of pride in our product (making it awesome), our work (making it fun), and our co-workers (making them happy). We're passionate about building the best possible tools for developers.

Your mission: delight users with a smooth, beautiful, easy-to-use web UI

Developer tools aren't known for amazing UI & UX -- but Scout is an exception! We place huge importance on ease-of-use and a thoughtful, focused web UI. We need you to:

  • implement the web UI for new features & functionality in our application (SaaS application & server monitoring)
  • make cool stuff with Javascript
  • occasionally update our public site with new marketing messages, feature changes, etc.
  • make the UI tablet (and occasionally phone) friendly

To flourish in this role, you'll need:

  • expert-level Javascript/HTML/CSS skills. We use jQuery, Slim, Backbone, bootstrap, and D3 - exposure to those specifically is nice but not required
  • experience with data-driven applications. Think charts, dashboards, etc.
  • good intuition on layout and composition. You don't need to be a design expert
  • to play well with back-end developers. Every feature touches back- & front-end, and you'll need to hash out solutions together

Benefits

Competitive salary, health care reimbursement, unlimited vacation time, sneak out for a bike ride/hike on a beautiful day. Newest-model retina Macbook pro supplied.

Job Opening: Java Agent Developer

Scout is building the next generation of APM (Application Performance Monitoring). We take a lot of pride in our product (making it awesome), our work (making it fun), and our co-workers (making them happy). We're passionate about building the best possible tools for developers.

Your mission: instrument all the things in Java

As an expert in Java web technologies, you'll build and maintain our Java performance monitoring agent. The agent is deployed in production applications to track performance, throughput, and performance hotspots.

  • instrument popular frameworks like Spring MVC, JSF, and Vaadin
  • maintain compatibility with major app servers like Tomcat, Jetty, JBoss, and Glassfish
  • optimize the agent to run in always-on production environments with minimal overhead
  • stay on top of JVM & framework developments, and extend the Scout agent as needed

To flourish in this role, you'll need:

  • significant Java chops
  • relentless focus on performance
  • willingness to dig deep into a variety of web and persistence frameworks
  • ability to manage your time -- at Scout we assign goals, not tasks

You won't be writing web apps in Java, but you'll be implementing deep instrumentation throughout the JVM and multiple web frameworks.

Benefits

Competitive salary, health care reimbursement, unlimited vacation time, sneak out for a bike ride/hike on a beautiful day. Newest-model retina Macbook pro supplied.
