Our yearly harbor weekend

With a big flea market, restaurant testings and sailing on the Gooi lake with old fishing vessels.

We tasted paella with tortilla and a pasteis de nata (for me Portuguese and not Spanish) from a for us new Spanish restaurant with sangria for €8 p/p.

The boat trip we were just skipping this year.

Skywatch above the Hermitage Amsterdam

The building dates from 1683 and you can read its history here. As far as I know, it is the longest undisturbed brick facade in amsterdam with a length of 180m. Partly due to the fact that for the masonry mortar of that time shell lime was used in contrast to the current cement mortar, which is much less flexible and therefore requires a dilletation joint every few metres. Older

At the corner of yesterdays post you find the Oudezijds Kolk, a narrow lock between the Oosterdok and the Oudezijds Voorburgwal. The Kolksluis is one of the oldest locks in Amsterdam that has been in use since the Middle Ages. The main functions of the lock are to protect the city against flooding and to refresh the water in the canals.

An advertisement of cafe East-West that they have existed since 1731 and all brands sell distilled. This one seems to me from 1950. One for Signs, Signs here.

Along the fields of the city farm in Almere we have now an insect friendly border.

Progress

These so-called uri-elevators can now be found at busy points with many terraces in the city. Usually they only appear in the evening hours but this was already open and exposed at lunchtime. There are still some questions left. The going up and down of these things seems a bit tricky to me and as usual the ladies were not thought of. Hope it works.

Opening new theater season 19/20

Accompanied by members of the concert hall, Sabrina Stark performs a beautiful jazz song as a foretaste of the new theatre season 2019/2020. 

It was so hot that many visitors cooled down in the museum pond of the state museum.

The ice-cream beetle was doing good business but we stopped it and went back home quickly.
