about

We enjoy a rich history of more than 200 years of academic leadership, and we're building on that tradition. Find out more about our history, the people who make us successful and how to help shape our future.

Our Leadership

As the state’s flagship university, we are governed by a board of trustees appointed by the governor and state lawmakers. President Harris Pastides has guided our university and the USC system since 2008.

Our History

From our founding in 1801 and original quadrangle of buildings that make up the Horseshoe, through the Civil War, Reconstruction and World War II, we have persevered and transformed into a major research university still dedicated to educating South Carolinians.
