Down The Alley

I shot this photo this past summer in Nelson, BC Canada. The twinkle lights on the deck make a wonderful atmosphere and Nelson has some great alley views. This alley is probably my favourite because I love brick and the rolling street down this alley looks cool to me. The lights over the deck are from a restaurant that is in the brick building to the left. I’m not sure if the food is any good, but I am certain if you got a good seat on that deck your going to enjoy the ambience.

More Buildings & Lights

The Calgary skyline is forever changing. There is a new building going up that is beside the bright one in the middle that is going to be awesome. The new building kind of turns as it goes up. I’m sure that’s going to be a wonderful building to get ultra wide angle shots of. There is also another big project going on near the bottom of the photo where the bright light is. I’m not sure what’s happening, but they got what looks like the beginning of a band shell or something along those lines. Whatever it is they are doing down there I’m sure it’s going to be great! I can’t wait to see it when it’s done, I’ll probably have to bust out the ol fisheye for that one. 😉

His First Real Camera

I gave my 6 year old son Cameron his first real camera today. He had been asking me for one for the past 6 months and he was very clear he wanted one like mine with a proper viewfinder, so no point and shoots would do. I told him I would be keeping my eye out for a good deal on a camera for him and today was the day. Cameron is now the happy owner of a good old Canon 20D! A camera I have a lot of experience with, as I shot one for a very long time back in the 20D days. He loves the camera and I think it will suit him just fine while he dips his toes into the wonderful world of photography.

When I gave Cameron the camera he was super excited and happy! I quickly showed him the basics and he ran out the door to shoot photos. I caught up with him about 45 minutes later and he was still wondering around the block taking pictures. We passed by this tree and he ask me to hold his camera. He shot up the tree, I gave him is camera back and he started taking pictures of this dog that was sitting in the grass. I’d say he’s got the right idea about getting a unique shot. Who knows, we just might have another photographer in the family. 🙂

Once Upon a View

I shot this photo out of the kitchen window of an abandoned house. It’s crazy to think that one day a very long time ago some one stood here doing dishes and looked out to the side of their beautiful new house with pride and joy. And now this, a barley standing shell of what it once was. The roof just barely hanging on and dipping down into the rubble of forgotten time.

Cammy Hockey

My 6 year old son has started playing hockey this year. Well it’s more of a hockey camp, but it’s the first time he’s been on a proper rink with all the gear. He’s been hanging around the rink watching his older brother Joshua play for the past few years and he finally decided he wanted to give it a go. Yesterday was his second day on the ice and he loves it!

Note: I shot all these photos through the thick (puck scuffed) plexiglass, so the images aren’t as sharp and bang on as they would otherwise be.

I was out shooting some photos one night with a friend of mine and I was getting pretty board of the pictures I was taking. I thought I’d just hop in some of the shots to shake things up. 🙂

Oh and by the way, this is in no way an endorsement or anything of that nature to the companies sign I am sitting in front of haha. The sign just kind of matched my shirt, so I sat there.

4 Brands, 1 Photo

I was just doing some example shots to show how the Pentax-A 50mm 1.7 performs on my Fujifilm X-Pro1. I kind of like the picture, so I thought I might as well share it. The camera in the picture is my Sony a7ii with a Canon 16-35mm f2.8 ii attached with a Metabones adapter. It was only the moment I decided to share the photo that I realized I had 4 different camera companies going on here to shoot this one photo haha. Kind of hilarious and kind of weird at the same time. 😜

Out in These Streets

I was out kicking around Calgary last night shooting some photos. It wasn’t a particularly nice night for it, because the sky was rather dark, but there were people out and the atmosphere of the city made up for the dark skies. I met 4 different people and we all followed each other on Instagram. The first picture is one of those people. Big up to everyone down to meet someone new on the city streets at night. 🙂

Banff National Park

I shot this photo while heading up the Gondola in Banff National Park. The view from the Gondola ride is amazing and if you ever find your self in Banff it is definitely worth a look! Even if you’re not crazy about mountains, the views will not disappoint.

Urban Honolulu Night

The city of Honolulu looks amazing at night! The view from the apartment we rented was especially amazing after the sun went down. I kind of wish I lived in a an apartment so I could get a wicked city view like this, but when you got two crazy little boys that love to run out the door every 5 minutes it’s not really ideal. Maybe one day though ;).

Penny Boarding Honolulu

My son’s and I brought our Penny Boards to Honolulu and it was the best thing ever. We used those boards everyday and I especially loved it because at night I would skate around taking pictures and I could cover a lot more ground than I would if I was just walking. Honolulu Morning View

This is the view Cameron was looking at in my last post. The view from our room in Honolulu was amazing! I spent a lot time staring out the window at it. I think most people would have wanted a straight view of the beach, but for me this was just perfect! I kind of feel like, if you seen one beach, you’ve seen them all. Sitting at this window with a coffee in the morning provided a lot of new things to see and a very inviting city to draw you into.
