This is the second time that I’ve been by a beach that I have photographed fences and grasses.

Must be striking a chord with my imagination.

Could be the next series I work on…

My niece is getting married this weekend and we are taking a few days extra to visit and tourist around. I may get a chance to post something, but not very likely until we are home again!
Need to work on these when I get home…

I realized yesterday that I have a lot of starts this year but not too many finishes. I need to be in finishing mode!!!
And I’m teaching this in a couple of weeks at Quilt University…

…love this little project!
It’s nice to know that there are still ‘fiber firsts’ in my life, after all my years of playing with textiles. Until today, I had never made a book cover!
As usual, I tripped over some fabric and that triggered the idea. I’ve saved cut-offs from quilts that have been trimmed up, knowing that someday I would use them for something! Today was the day.
Started out like this, overlapping some pieces and butting together others.

It changed a tiny bit in the construction, but this was the general configuration. I thought that I would embellish it like crazy, but changed my mind. This will end up as a gift and I’m not sure the recipient would like that as much as I would. For this first one, I’ll stick with colorful and plain!

This was so fun and easy that I want to make more! Wish I had a book collection to cover up. Oh, goodness…maybe I’ll make an art journal…another thing that I never, ever thought I’d make. Hmmmm….it could happen!
You know that procrastination and I have a long, long relationship. We have deep discussions all the time and procrastination usually wins. Today, I was the winner!
The beading on this triangle piece was not showing up at all, so I was very discouraged. Why put beads on in the first place, if you can’t see them? I finally woke up and realized that they make large beads, too, for a reason! DUH!

As soon as I got those on, the project almost finished itself. Here are some of the spots where I added more tiny beads.

I’m sure you can understand why I became discouraged with them. Now I have a combination of large and small beads, hand and machine stitching and lots and lots of color. It is also—best of all!—DONE.

Of course, procrastination may win when it comes time to get out the staple gun and mount this to a canvas…but it is ready!
The Building Series continues with the quilting on the next set.

They are all the same size–I just didn’t size the pictures all the same! Anyhow, I kept the quilting very simple to go with the straight lines and a feel for buildings.

Not sure how I’m going to finish and mount either set in this series. Usually that’s a no-brainer to paint a canvas and make each piece a separate artwork. These may work better if presented as a single piece with four parts. Have to play around with this a bit, but there is a deadline and that helps me to focus and make decisions! And my brain just says hmmmmmmmm…….
I published two posts on the same day, and it’s not because I’m doing so much or have that much to show you. It’s just that I didn’t pay attention to the dates on the scheduler. I knew I’d miss a day or two while I painted the bathroom and did some yard work, so I thought I’d be smart and space things out…does not work if you don’t pay attention to details!
Last night I could not stand it any more! I haven’t done any sewing or quilting to speak of for quite a while, so I headed down to the studio to do something–anything–with thread and needle or machine! I’ve been making things with the same pile of scraps for so long that I couldn’t face them anymore, but I had a small piece all set to be quilted, so that’s what I did!

I felt like I was learning how to quilt all over again, so I stuck with what was easiest. All over spirals and spiral squares make me feel very comfortable. I can almost do them in my sleep.

I used a new variegated thread, since there was already every color under the sun in the top, and my favorite lime green in the bobbin. Of course my hubby always likes the back of a quilt when you can see the quilting very clearly!

So simple and yet so satisfying when you are hungry for a bit of sewing! I’m not sure, yet, but I may hang onto this one unfinished. There is a possibility that it could grow into something larger, since I have that huge pile of scraps that I would like to use up. The sad truth is that the scrap piles continue to grow and I’m just trying to fool myself into believing that I will ever in my lifetime use them all up!!! I guess the fun is in the trying, though, isn’t it?
The parfait fabrics that were made to come out dark and paler are rinsed and pressed. They definitely go together, but the pale is not as light as I had hoped. Next time I will know to put even less dye into the pale group.

They also work well with the extra pieces and dyes that wouldn’t fit into the containers. It would have been nice if they had–there would have been more color blending. But this works.
And I boiled–per the instructions–the fabric I wrapped up in those old tie dye cords. Obviously the color holds up over time.

And, you know what? Dharma still sells these same cords–even in the same packaging! So I guess I can testify that it’s a good product!
Today I need to paint a bathroom…doubt if I’ll get anything else colored!
