What do you do when you have absolutely no idea about how to move forward in life? What do you do when you don’t know what to choose, between options that could make you either happy or miserable?
Some decisions are big and powerful enough to alter your life forever. And there are the simple decisions as well like deciding between brands of product to buy in a grocery store. Every question needs an answer. Like any other problem that has to be solved.
What is Problem Solving?
Problem solving can be exciting and tricky at the same time.
It is considered as the most complex of all intellectual functions.
It is a cognitive process working at a higher level.
Problem solving actually involves both regulation and control of basic, routine and fundamental skills.
Problem solving is not an impulsive act to find solutions, but a systematic process that entails different approaches. Your problem solving skills could be either innate or developed.

“Dr. Oberhardt had spoken about #problemsolvingskills in 2013 and we were thrilled to have him back to lecture about Dragonfly Thinking. Many of the students returned to hear him speak again. Our students were engaged during his passionate presentation.”

Problem Solving -- What we may learn from Bob Dylan?
May be, creating such ‘simulating environments’ would go a long way to teach the art and science of problem solving. Such stimulating environments might be created by
a) offering space and time free of ‘fear’
b) deep and broad study — specialist and generalist at the same time — or as Tim Brown says — the T people.
c) through stimulating interactions and communications with peers and mentor.
In other words, it means that an expert problem solver needs to hone his/her skills in developing:
a) acute awareness of a context
b) the art of seeing
c) coming up with skillful actions
The good news is — those are really very teachable skills.
However, it depends on organizations and families to create ‘stimulating environments’ within which such creative skills flourish.
