Diliman Abdulkader @D_abdulkader 20 Jun 2018 - Some clarification on F-35 jets to #Turkey. The news reports that it will be #delivered this Thursday despite Congressional pushback. This is false. F-35 was a purchase through Lockheed Martin & first batch (30 jets) will be presented to Turkey but will not be delivered to Turkey.
- It is a cerimonial “delivery.” Turkish pilots will be trained on the #jets until next year here in the #US, the vote buys #Congress time to prevent the transfer of titles or to leave US territory. Once it becomes law (likely end of summer), the transaction will be reversed.
- A report is required by Sec. #Defense #Mattis, also stopping S-400 missiles from #Russia (which Turkey already bought & delivery is July 2019). Turkey will most likely go through with this purchase. Congress also requires the Pentagon to build any parts Turkey made here in the US.
