OK boyz and gurlz. I'll save you the trouble and let you know now that the "PlayerPro Music Player" is without a doubt, THE best Android music player app for the OnePlus One ;)

Do you use Android?

Google's various apps are very populous and popular on Android devices, but some are more hit than miss. In some cases, you can tell Google used great UI people to tweak and massage how the apps work and run from a usability viewpoint. In other apps, well, it seems kinda obvious a code monkey with little UI experience was let loose. Some thoughts:

#chromemobile - fantastic beta. I love how it works on the phones especially. The tablet version is good, but missing a bit of the panache and richness of the phone version. I use this over the built in browser (which in ICS, is very fast).

#youtubemobile - very polished. Looks fantastic, especially on a tablet. iPhone can't even touch it. But there's a weird series of bugs in ICS that force the Youtube app to flicker randomly on rare occasions. Other than that, possibly my favourite google app for android right now in terms of look and feel and ability.

#gmailmobile - again, fantastic app, especially on ICS. Very polished, very well designed, highly usable. Better than my desktop clients for email, and much better, IMO, than Google's desktop browser version of gmail.

#googlemaps and #googlenavigate - again, quite fantastic renditions of Google's maps and navigation systems. No need to buy GPS software - the navigation system (with voice turn by turn, images of your destination via street view, voice commands and more) is awesome. iOS cannot touch these two services. Google Maps on iOS looks like 3 generations ago.

#googledocsmobile recently radically improved, including much better and more polished editing / document creation tools, and sharing / collaboration. This is very recent - two weeks ago i would have called it one of the worst google apps on Android. But it still has a long ways to go. With Android devices like the Transformer Prime, Google Docs needs some serious continued maturing. It needs a spell checker at the very least.

#googlecurrents has potential, but buggy as heck and no where near the polish of Flipboard (on iOS). Damn, I wish Flipboard would come to Android. Google Currents is also a space hog on your android device, creating literally hundreds, if not thousands of directories on your android's internal memory. Needs a real engineering rethink, and better UI. Also, US only (erm, why?) so peons like me have to hunt down the APK

#schemermobile I was initially intrigued by Google's Schemer service (also only US based, so I had to trick my way into it), but the App is weird and doesn't really live up to Schemer's promise. Then again, the Schemer website doesn't live up to its promise either.

#googleplusandroid a huge disappointment, both on phones and on tablets. Especially tablets. Worst UI of any Google application on Android by a long stretch. They've also removed features that people like with the latest versions. UI looks like a beginner web page design. Massive wasted space. Only good thing about it is the Android integration for getting things up to Google Plus via desktop browsers. The images integration is buggy as fuck on ICS - it really screws with (and slows down) Android's native Gallery app. Want to show someone a photo on your phone? When I do, I have to wait up to a minute or two (I'm not kidding) for it to refresh and grab online images before any images will display. I could turn off the Google+ images pull but that would also turn off instant upload (a killer feature); you can't have one without the other.

#AndroidMusic a decent app this time around (given it's Google's what, 5th attempt at a music app for Android?). Still laggy and slow because it relies so much on cloud music fetching. Again, US only for cloud (fuck you Canadian RIAA etc). So peons like me have to quasi hack things, use tricks (spoofing my IP to read as a US-based IP) to get into Google Music and use the cloud service. Good news is, once you're registered, it works fine from Canada. You just can't buy new music. The app is no where near as polished as iOS' music options.

#AndroidVideo - not really its own app, but a layer used in Gallery and Music. Kinda basic. If Google wants to make multimedia a killer feature in Android, adding a DNLA server / streamer to the video (and audio) would help a lot.

#googlelisten - I guess I should be happy that there's even a free (and google) podcast app for Android. For some ridiculous reason, the few other podcast apps out there for Android cost $5 or more. Way too much. But this program frustrates quite a bit. Prone to crashes, doesn't update feeds, and a crappy interface. You really have to love podcasts to even consider downloading. And you can't listen to the podcasts in any other app.
