”I thought this was supposed to be a ‘friendly’ match, Talia. There was nothing friendly about the way you just kicked me in the ribs!”

Daario Naharis, the Captain Of the Second Sons wiped sweat away from his forehead as he caught his breath after the friendly sparring he had engaged in with Talia Sand.

”Why do you even bother calling these training sessions? You are trained well enough. Anyone who has seen you fight knows that you get in there to win.”

Talia chuckled at his words as she sheathed her swords and tucked a few loose strands of hair behind her ear.

”My cousin was the greatest spear fighter Dorne has ever known! I grew up watching him fight but never witnessed a man who won against him. Is it still such a surprise that I fight to win?”

”It’s not just about the sparring we do.” All of a sudden Daario sounded serious. I’ve seen you fight in the field. It’s almost as if you enjoy it.”

”That’s because I do.” Talia said pulling her leather gloves off and tucking them into a pocket. She turned back towards the gates of the small arena where the soldiers and the mercenaries of the Dragon Queen’s armies trained, nodding at people as they passed her by on her way out of the place.

”I used to think women from Westeros did not fight until I met you.” The captain was right behind her as Talia gradually made her way to the Pyramid where her chambers were. ”You are tiny as a mouse but I’ve seen you beat up people twice your size.” He said, stared at her for a moment and shook his head. ”Make that thrice! You have to tell me what got you into this in the first place!”

His words managed to steal a laugh from her lips as she shook her head at his comparison.

”It is true that women rarely fight or take up arms in most parts of Westeros, but Dorne is largely different.” Both mercenaries sat down on some stairs that led up to the interior of one of the great pyramids as Talia explained her unique situation to the curious captain. ”In Dorne anyone who wishes to learn how to wield a sword or thrust a spear has a place at the training yard. Your gender does not matter as long as you prove your worth.”

Daario nodded along while pricking at his nails with a small dagger he kept about himself. He seemed untroubled by the story so far, probably given how in the Free Cities women who wielded arms were much more common than in Westeros.

”For me fighting was in my blood. My father was a great warrior. He served in the Kingsguard with Ser Barristan. And as I said my cousin was an outstanding fighter. I aspired to be like them but as you cleverly observed I am small and the spear was better suited for a taller person so I had to learn how to fight with the swords.”

At that Daario chuckled. ”So you do know you are tiny as a mouse. Good.”

”Have you ever considered that maybe the reason I kick you a lot is actually because you insist on comparing me to a rodent?”

”Then your kicks are wasted because I will not be giving that up in the near future.”

”Whatever. Just know that next time you fall, nothing’s stopping me from kicking that pretty face of yours.”

Talia smirked and leaned back on her elbows nonchalantly before stretching her legs in front of her.

”It was fun you know... being able to stab people. And slash them.” She mimicked slashing and stabbing someone before throwing her head back in laughter.

”Oh the look on your face Daario! This is priceless! Don’t worry I won’t kick your face, I know the Queen won’t be pleased with me if I do that.”

Her laughter was joined by a small chuckle from the other mercenary. ”I don’t know what you are talking about.”

”Please Daario, save your breath.” Talia waved his comment away. ”Everyone knows you are sleeping with Daenerys.”

”Someone has been keeping an ear open for the gossip.”

”It’s not gossip captain, it’s common knowledge and it’s not like you are trying to hide it!”

”Fair enough.” Daario threw his hands up. ”As long as you don’t kick me in the face, everything is good.” He winked at her in his ever playful manner before adding, ”Little mouse.”

”Hmm... Suddenly I feel like I don’t care what the Queen thinks of me.”

”I don’t care. Little mouse.”

”You are a child that’s what you are!”

”Whatever Little mouse.”

”If you ‘wanted’ me to kick your teeth in, you could have just asked!”
