Riding the Dragon
This trip Ean and I climbed three summits. The photo was taken from the summit of Dragontail, one of the 100 highest peaks of Washington State. The exposure is extreme and to step out onto this Overhanging Flake took steady nerves, even with no wind.

That is me riding the Dragon. I did not have any problems but in the back of my mind, I wondered if my weight would cause this overhanging rock flake to break loose. It has been there for many years and like swimming in the ocean those shark attacks are rare, right?
Climbing Partners and Going Solo
It is not always easy to coordinate with other climbers. You each must have time off in sync, good weather, similar goals and plans, ... Frequently a plan is dashed to pieces by that late evening phone call; "I can't make it, something came up" ... and thus plan B, Just climb anyway, Climb Solo. Other Times I get lazy and just climb solo to get what I want, while trying to coordinate The Big Ones with climbing partners for some other peak later.
The advantage I get by going solo; Not having to coordinate, shorter drive, never have to stop unless I need to, not waiting for others that are usually slow, not having to take unexpectant bio-breaks, food breaks, and never having to discuss differences of opinion on the route. Also the drive back is not out of the way...
That week I was out on my own again and likewise was Ean. We met on the way into the mountains and stuck together to accomplish some climbs. I was really glad for the company and several of the photos came out better then I expected. It is almost like we planned it, but it was just by chance that we met and were also willing to give up the our solo plans.

Retreating From Mt Challenger
I was heading down after getting bad weather on Mt Challenger, WA. The clouds and wind were a little too much for me, so changed plans and climbed Whatcom Peak in a White out. Every now and then the clouds would open up, to spectacular views but most of the time I was surrounded in the fog. These large Ice blocks on the glacier, I would cross, hoping none of them would break free. Through out the day I would hear the glacier break apart in various places. Randy :)

Dome Peak from White Rock Lakes, WA
I took this photo after a day of exploring the South Cascade Glacier. Dome Peak, I climbed 2 years ago and I feel it is a climb worth repeating. It has some technical challenges and is also fairly remote. You just won't find many people on this peak. The South Cascade Glacier,WA.
I really enjoyed being here. It is way off the beaten path near the Ptarmigan Traverse, WA. I came down the full length of the glacier to check it out and went for a swim in a cold lake. The ice in the photo is hard as rock and polished ice. I did find an interesting rock river of sorts, that is continuous. It seems that a bunch of rock fall eventually comes to a single stream on the glacier.

South Cascade Lake
I went down to this lake to take in the views and swim. The entire lake only recently has come out of the Ice Age. Older photos show most of the lake was covered by the glacier. I was expecting not to find much life in the new mud, dirt, and rock, yet found many colorful flowers and small bushes. It may look like a waste land from this photo but up close it was gorgeous.

Cutting Loose and Grounder
I saw this clip thinking he was going to take a big swing, with no helmet, then...
I once took a fall and cut-loose off an anchor. I could hear the rope, trailing behind me, cutting through the air with a wicked speeding sound. I lived, yet most of the time catastrophic failures don't come out well.
Just a reminder to everyone that unexpected things do happen. If your a climber you have probably been scared many times, have had several close-calls, or lost climbing friends. Be safe!

Say Cheese
I took this photo while climbing Darado Needle in the North Cascades of WA. It was time to fuel up again and the views were great.
The rock was descent and there was some snow/ice challenges. At this point in the photo, I was trying to find a crossing point so I could climb the peak in the background. Eventually I found a good crossing, navigated the crevasses and crossed a sketchy high angle snow moat to some nice alpine rock.

This lake has recently escaped the Ice Age and has lots of new growth. Most of this areas is just rock and mud with some very colorful views just now and then. Few people ever get here being off trail. I had some extra time to swim in the icy water. It was very refreshing.
