Oct 23-25: Palo Alto, California
Steve Huter participated in the People-Centered Internet Conference hosted by Vint Cerf and Mei Lin Fung of Digital Dividends for All. Discussions at the Stanford University campus ranged from health care to building network infrastructure to information discovery. Bitange Ndemo, an associate professor at University of Nairobi’s Business School wrote a follow-up article titled "Towards a people-centred Internet in Africa" for Business Daily Africa.
Oct 12-16: Bangkok, Thailand
NSRC trainers Dean Pemberton and Hervey Allen with NSRC collaborator Ron Milford from Indiana University presented a five day hands-on technical workshop focused on network monitoring and management and sessions on software defined networking. The Asian Institute of Technology's intERLab in Pathumthani hosted the participants as part of the annual TEIN NOC workshop.
Sept 7-11: Nairobi, Kenya
NSRC personnel in conjunction with Indiana University presented a workshop on perfSONAR deployment and use as well as providing direct engineering assistance to the Kenya Education Network (KENET). perfSONAR nodes installed at POPs around Kenya revealed one network performance problem that could be immediately fixed and will allow KENET network engineers to actively monitor the performance of the KENET core network using perfSONAR tools. Funding for the project in part was provided by the National Science Foundation under a grant to Indiana University administered by Director for International Networking Jennifer Schopf.
Sept 17 - 21: Yerevan, Armenia
Chris Elliott and Phil Regnauld of NSRC joined Ferenc Csorba of RIPE and Misak Khachatryan of GNC-Alfa CJSC to teach a 5 day hands-on workshop on Network Management and Monitoring best practices and tools with 22 participants from Armenia.
July 3 - 17: Apia, Samoa
Network engineers convened for the 17th Pacific Network Operators Group (PACNOG) in Apia, Samoa. NSRC trainers Philip Smith and Andy Linton led a hands-on lab to teach the BGP skills required for participation in the Samoa Internet Exchange Point. NSRC trainers Dean Pemberton and Jon Brewer led a Linux/System Administration/Network Security workshop. Champika Wijayatunga (ICANN) and Sheryl Hermoso (APNIC) taught a workshop on DNS/ccTLD Management & Critical Internet Resources Management.
