Partially Hand-Stitched Photos Visualize the Past Boundaries of the Berlin Wall

November 9, 2019 marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. And although there is no longer a physical border between East and West, there is still a strong sense of Berlin’s turbulent past all over the city. LA-based artist Diane Meyer visited the former, 104-mile (160 km) path where the wall once stood. The site inspired her to create a reflective series, simply titled Berlin.

The epic artwork depicts a tortoise roaming through the dry desert, carrying a lush, whimsical woodland on its back.

The idea of cycling almost 80 miles (128.75 km) isn’t everyone’s idea of fun, but for Cheltenham, England-based Anthony Hoyte, it’s a chance to get creative. He’s a master of Strava art—a process that involves planning cycle routes on Strava.com and recording them using GPS. When complete, the routes look like recognizable graphic motifs on a map.
