i went to bed last night knowing there had been some sort of shooting, at a mosque somewhere, but decided not to find out and to let myself rest. today i read the news and a shooter in new zealand shot up two mosques, killed 49 people, injured almost 50 more.

34 years and 47 days ago today congress party leader sajjan kumar led genocidal mobs through delhi to kill off its sikh population. kumar was one of many government leaders hell bent on systematically destroying the sikh population throughout india. thousands were killed.

while kumar’s sentencing is welcomed - the idea that nath’s complicity in the carnage is rewarded with political promotions is a travesty.

nevertheless - in the same week that kumar was sent to life in prison. another of the accused - kamal nath was appointed as a governor of an indian state. protests against kamal nath’s arrival in canada in 2010 set off a wave of activism amongst my friends.

above all i want to recognize kaurs such as jagdish kaur and nirpreet kaur who provided heroic testimony against kumar. during the carnage 5 members of jagdish kaur‘s family were killed while a mob set nirpreet kaur’s father on fire right in front of her.
