Iran "officially" has been around for thousands of years and will most certainly survive the Trump presidency. So sloppy. If you must, threaten the regime, the mullahs, or the IRI, but not "Iran" or the Persian people.

There's something truly surreal about the social media feed for a channel affiliated with ******Al Jazeera****** criticizing US media for irresponsible skewed coverage. And its critique is filled with historical inaccuracies & bias. Irony knows no bounds.

A senior Hezbollah official said income from Iran has fallen, forcing a cut in expenditures. “There is no doubt these sanctions have had a negative impact..But ultimately, sanctions are a component of war, and we are going to confront them in this context”

1. So about those Iranian missiles on dhows. This is a perfect example of how miscalculation & misinterpretation of actions can lead to war even if both sides view their actions as defensive.

I spoke with Adam Schiff about the U.S. intelligence on threats from Iran. He said the threat is real — but that he also fears “we may be creating a self-fulfilling prophecy of conflict with Iran — and without any end game in mind.”

A Norwegian report says Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are “highly likely” to have facilitated attacks-using underwater drones-last Sunday on four tankers in the UAE. Using both proxies and drones, Iran now has two layers of (im)plausible deniability

Everyone tweeting that the Iran rumblings this week remind them of the run-up to the Iraq war have either completely forgotten or repressed everything about the (15-month) run-up to the Iraq war.

I agree, and have been writing about the risks of escalation/conflict with Iran since the beginning of the Trump presidency. But few if any of the factors that led to the 2003 Iraq war exist today. That was my simple point.

No ethnic lobby in America spends more time gratuitously attacking/trolling its own constituents than the National Iranian American Council (). They attack Iranian-Americans far more than they do the Iranian regime. It's totally unprofessional/unnecessary. Grow up.

No matter what Bolton wants, the conditions that led to the 2003 Iraq war don't exist today. Trump is opposed, Congress is opposed, the US public is opposed, and there's zero international support. We can be concerned about escalation w/o fearmongering

There are virtually no “eerie parallels” between Iraq 2003 and Iran 2019. In 2003 Saddam was thought to have WMD, Bush wanted to spread democracy in the Middle East, and there was bi-partisan/popular support for it in the wake of 9/11. None of those dynamics exist today.

In covering US-Iran tensions, it's important to distinguish between a supposed desire for war on the one hand and the risk of escalation on the other - reporting on the former is I think exaggerated, while the latter is quite real. 1/
