I want to say that I ordered it several weeks before the Saudi regime revealed itself as a grisly targeted killer (in addition to being an indiscriminate killer). That would be true, but inappropriate.

Thanks for this thread. Your dad sounds like an amazing guy. Let's hope fewer people in the future are forced into having such interesting lives...

Do you think those MAC proposals will be adopted, or do you think the month by month rationing will continue?

If the present regime is extended also to EEA nationals, there will be major problems in recruiting talented individuals. I think this is a problem/valid concern for my sector.

Presently it is very difficult to hire non-EEA nationals. It's not enough to be better than all the rest: the EEA nationals have to be unappointable. Depending on how fast and loose people play, this can be interpreted as a ban.

You might say that this is (1) false precision, or (2) unnecessary. I agree lots of models are poorly calibrated (1). But I can't understand why, as someone who cares a lot about precision in language, you would be fine w/ numerical imprecision

"80%" has the the property of "not being confused with 85%". But two people can use, e.g,, "high chance" to mean something between 78 and 90% (per jstor.org/stable/2245869…)

Bit tricky because the @BESResearch question doesn't directly ask about UC, so we can't distinguish folks on UC vs legacy programs (who are systematically different due to the rollout criteria).
But @usociety UKHLS added a UC question from Wave 6 (2014-16): pic.twitter.com/jdciMiH8MV
