5. Companies have to follow the law when using information from or about us. Governments have to follow the law. There is no principled reason for failing to hold political parties to the same standard as every other data collector in Canada.

4. Merely requiring parties to have a privacy policy, but without the force of law to make sure they stick to the (or to specify how strong it has to be), is like putting a band-aid on a someone having a heart attack—useless.
