Thanks for helping NYC to celebrate Earth Day by reducing solid waste. This small fee will help New Yorkers bring reusable bags, rather than sending billions of single-use bags to landfills every year. It's working in cities, state & countries all over the world.

We need to rebuild unions in this country. That's why I’ve proposed a new law banning states from passing so-called right to work laws that destroy labor unions. It will make sure that unions have a front-and-center seat at the table in any trade negotiation.

Yikes! Obviously get why it would be disruptive to traffic on Flatbush to do during the day, but totally unacceptable to make it impossible for neighbors to sleep, with no indication at all about how long it will take. We will get on it today.

This article totally vindicates my 2016 law (nullified in Albany) to place a 5-cent fee on both plastic & paper bags! Still it makes clear that given NYS plastic-bag ban, a 5-cent fee on paper is needed. And that the best thing is for us to bring reusable bags we already have.

There's this awesome thing called - where movement groups like and come together with progressive local electeds to challenge power and build power... as a team. Who knew there were so many of us in Texas?

I will continue to work and pray for an end to the occupation, which is the only path to peace, and hopefully someday to reconciliation and mutual understanding.

At the same time, I want Palestinian NY'rs to know that I deeply value your human rights, your self-determination, your fundamental worth as human beings, equal to mine & that of my people. We must not construct our identities in ways that existentially pit us against each other.

As a proud, Jewish New Yorker I strongly support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state. And I believe it is essential to stand up loud and clear against anti-Semitism, on the right, on the left, and in the streets.

Still, it is critical that our Immigration Comm be a place where all NYrs feel welcome & do not have to worry that their identities will be questioned or erased. In these troubled times, we must set a standard for leadership that does not polarize communities against one another.

Moreover, the hideous anti-Semitic threats of violence that he and his staff have received in recent days are truly abominable. I condemn them without reservation, and I hope the NYPD will pursue enforcement aggressively.

I do not believe Council Member Yeger is a bigot. I do not believe he has hate in his heart. When we have disagreed in the past, I have generally found him to be respectful and open to thoughtful debate.
