Thread on freelance journalism/gender etc. I didn't include anything in this 'think piece' on working as a female foreign correspondent specifically. Again, it's a question I'm often asked: what's it like working as a woman in often patriarchal societies?

Horrific reports of a 5 year old girl dying on a boat off coast of Libya. No one should have the Mediterranean as their final resting place. Could have been prevented if more NGO boats were permitted to conduct search & rescue on the central Mediterranean. NGO boats save lives!

At least 6 of the 22 hospitals bombed in Syrian and Russian airstrikes this month were on a list of civilian infrastructure shared with warring parties by the UN - the "deconfliction mechanism". has called it "inexcusable".

The Eye of the Euphrates released a picture taken in Ash Shafah showing a tunnel network that was under the town. The tunnel was found by residents, not the SDF. Suggesting that sweeps inside the town were not very comprehensive.

if you like Notting Hill you should check out 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. It's also written by Richard Curtis and is way better than Notting Hill.

Kuwait's attempts to reform the kafala system, rather than uproot it, should provide some lessons for Lebanon. There is no quick fix for an entrenched system of abuse.
