Great to see that the Trump Administration has taken steps to call the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps what it is: a foreign terrorist organization. We should do the same in Congress.

. is right: what is given by one American president can be taken away by another. President Trump was right to acknowledge Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, but Congress must pass my legislation to make it official.

The CCP's growing influence in Latin America is cause for concern. Where the Belt and Road goes, Chinese military presence is likely to follow.

The Taiwan Relations Act turns 40 this month. While this is an important milestone, there's no time to wait. We must continue to expand our relationship with Taiwan on all fronts to grow its defense capabilities, strengthen its democracy, and promote its standing in the world.

Problems don’t age well, and we may soon find out what happens when we let them pile up. Next week, Congress is set to leave for a two and a half week vacation. This is insane. Lock us in on the House floor and make us hash out these issues until we reach a bipartisan solution.

If we can’t reach an agreement, existing law would cut defense spending by more than $70 billion. And since we did not reach a solution to the border crisis during the government shutdown, border security is likely to complicate an already-messy negotiation later this year.

By offering a bill instead of a budget resolution, my Democratic colleagues on the Budget Committee are neglecting to consider the larger fiscal picture. This is a big problem because there is a looming debt ceiling and budget cap fight, and no one is on the same page.

The Budget Committee is marking up a bill today that would raise budget caps for the next two years and dedicate $733B for defense in FY2020. That’s less than the president's $750B request and applies a dollar-for-dollar increase for defense and non-defense spending.

The whole letter is worth a read. I hope when addresses Congress today, he talks about 5G security and concrete steps NATO is taking to address the challenge. The free world must act with a sense of urgency.

The letter also raises concerns about the CCP's access to individual data, providing “unprecedented powers of foreign influence to favor authoritarian allies, coerce neighboring countries seeking to preserve their sovereignty, and punish human-rights activists the world over.”

From Poland, to the Baltics, and beyond, many of the countries considering Huawei for their 5G networks are US allies that could be on the frontlines of a future conflict. No good can come from highly-networked US forces sending data over compromised networks.

One of these concerns is the security of future military operations. DoD is currently considering how it could leverage 5G networks to share intelligence or push the immense amounts of data used in military operations. If these networks are Chinese, they're unlikely to be secure.

So far, mainstream concerns with firms like Huawei have focused on espionage concerns. Given high-profile examples like the African Union headquarters, this focus is understandable. But as the letter describes, espionage is only one of three broad concerns with PRC-supplied 5G.
