Drove past one of those massive pieces of homophobic propaganda ("Dad + Mom = Family | The courage to be normal") on the highway from the airport to Tel Aviv last night. Presumably most people who came to Israel for TLV Pride drove past it too (pic by Hazon, the org responsible)

There is a bigger picture here: a 2017 report from IGY, the Israeli LGBTQ+ youth org, states that 50% of queer students surveyed felt unsafe at higher education institutions in the country,& 61% avoided revealing their gender identity or sexual orientation

A student organization at Ariel University in the West Bank has invited Rabbi Yigal Levinstein, who notoriously referred to gay people as "perverts," to give a speech on campus. During Pride month.

This story has made me sad and rageful in equal measure. It is a reminder to not get too comfortable. Not to become complacent. Love and solidarity to these woman, and to all the LGBT+ community who continue to suffer homophobic abuse.
